Yes
hey all does anyone own/use a vw/audi vcds diagnostic system ?

I use VCDS lite with a USB interface. Works well as a free application but offers a lot more functionality when you pay to register it.

Worth having.

yes i agree i just bought the full system - when the interface is connected it states all ok apart from (can) but not sure if thats because my car does'nt need use the can - just a little unsure

I bought VCDS a few years ago along with a netbook to use it with. Great tool given that a diagnostic scan at the dealers costs £80 a go. The cable cost £220-240.

You do need to have an idea of what you're doing.

I use mine for fault finding and coding eg when i added the cenons or the rns510.

yeh im using it mainly for myself faults/soft coding etc

"Proper" VW/AUDI service departments' diagnostics machines will almost certainly be better than pretty much anything you can get for home use. I know that for my wife's car, a couple of generic type diagnostic machines turned up with a throttle body error but a proper one was also capable of doing a hard reset (basically a reboot) which actually solved the problem she was having rather than just pointing t where the problem might be. The throttle body had been replaced but not calibrated to the car - the proper machine did the job that a generic couldn't.

You can reset the throttle body with a registered copy of VCDS lite and the appropriate cable on the majority of VAG cars.

Its a lot more capable than the generic code readers/reset tools that you see on eBay.

Info of supported models here http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/applications/index.html

As above, you can do a throttle body alignment with VCDS, amongst other things.

The generic code readers that were used on my wife's car were both at proper garages but not specialists in the marque she drives. The work done (well, the test and labour time) ended up cheaper than your (omens) cable, let alone the software and a dedicated netbook. I hope the OP gets the result he needs.

depending on the age of your car it may or may not have canbus the dervs are from 04 on and a petrol from 2000 on

All in it cost me £67 to get up and running with registered software and cable as I luckily don't have canbus.

For me it has been invaluable in resolving a couple of niggles with the car when we bought and also allows me to tweak a few bits and pieces along the way.
