Yes
At the end of my contract with Voda so asked for Pac code as planned to go elsewhere and use SIM only with my iphone 4 (waiting for the 5 to come out!)

12 month SIM only with 600m, unlim text and 500mb data is half price - so just £10.25 a month!!! Just 25p more than giffgaff and you get more mins!

My average use is about 130mb a month so no need to pay more to get stuff that I won't use. Think only once have I gone over 200mb.

it is a misconcetpion on the data usage, if you think about how much 500mb is you wouldn't worry about it, also if you track your data again you wont need to worry. Although this does depend on if you have internet at home if not you'll prob use more data, I think I'm a heavy user and have never used 500mb a month even out an about tethered to my iPad :).

GiffGaff is unlimited data isn't it? Pretty sure it is, so that makes a massive difference.

Especially if you want to use the iPhone as WiFi hotspot and tether an iPad or laptop to it and use the data ;)

I got this deal some months back and find it very restricting

Vodafone charge a lot for tethering and actually don't allow me to use the Personal Hotspot feature of my phone at all!

I would be wary of any sim only contract with a "lock-in" clause, which is often up to 12 months.

I can totally understand the normal lock in of typically 24 months if you are being supplied with £500 of "free" hardware but a sim costs only a few pennies to manufacture so a lock in is not really appropriate as the network does not need to recover any up front costs.

But if you jailbreak it, you can use this feature free of charge.

Its pointless because:

a) It is not possible to jailbreak 4S I believe
b) 500MB doesn't go far when tethering!

Out of curiosity, why ?

I presumed (looks like wrongly) that it would be the same, interested to know why.

Cheers

If you were tethering to a laptop, lots more data would come down on a web page. I assume the same would apply to an iPad screen but to a lesser extent.

Jail broken tethering is only worthwhile on an unlimited plan.

As for 4S jailbreak it has now been done and is currently being packaged for release.

I've never understood this "tethering" nonsense as it's simply a ploy to charge more.

Data is data and if you have paid for x MB per month then they should not care HOW to use it.

That's my feelings as well, and also the sales guy I spoke to in the 3 shop approx 12 months ago, he said 3 didn't charge for tethering (not sure if it's still the same)

I think that's because three's infrastructure was built from the ground up as primarily a data-centric 3g network whereas the other networks were based mainly on legacy 2g voice networks with 3g as a sort of after-thought.

Been using Giffgaff with my Iphone for 3 months now and couldn't recommend them enough

I've been with three for a year and a half now, managed to work out a deal with 100 mins, 300 texts, unlimited 3 to 3 mins and 2gb data. I'm a light phone but heavy data user both on phone and tethering (which is allowed and one of the reasons I went with them). £10 a month, 30 day rolling contract.

I've never hit 2gb data in a month ,but have gone well over the 1gb.

So the consumer needs to be penalised for it :D

I took this Vodafone SIM only deal when I got my new iPhone...my normal usage is well within the constraints and it was much cheaper to buy the phone and get this 12 month SIM only contract even than an iPhone on an 18 month contract. And I'll be free to upgrade handsets quicker...

I got the same deal and have 750Mb of BT OpenZone as well.
Happy enough with my HTC desire and when I was tethering (whilst waiting for Broadband at new home, I got through the 500Mb in about 3 days .....

It's a 12m contract, but you can change after 9m ......
Think I will be deserving a new phone in Sep - funny, that's when my b'day is :D

Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S & iPad 2 !

This release should come as no surprise to those of you who have been following pod2g’s iOS blog for the past few months. Earlier this week, you might have even wet your pants a little when you watched the video demonstration of today’s release (named Absinthe A5) and first witnessed our jailbreak working its magic to liberate both the iPhone 4S & iPad 2.
