weekly Viv1969's Try at 52....The Sequel....2016 Week 50, 51 & 52.... And finished

Hi, just a normal day ruth , works well i like it nice focus on the cuffs

Three really good entries here; especially loving your Old and Metal shots.

The study of the elephant is wonderful; loving the focus on the wrinkles and texture of his skin. The close crop and mono conversion really work for this shot.

Your shot of cogs and wheels is very advertorial - well lit and pin sharp. Another fab mono study.

I like the idea behind your captive shot - again the lighting is interesting but I am. It entirely convinced by the composition. I find myself either wanting to see the inside elbows in shot, or too see more black around the outside of the frame, possibly both. More negative space in this shot might have enhanced the sense of being trapped.

Just a thought.

Spooks

"Thought provoking" indeed! Another good sharp image and I like the lighting, very stark against the dark backdrop. I kind of see what Spooks means about the tight framing but really my only crit is that they don't look anywhere near tight enough...

Bang on theme and the hi contrast B&W suits it perfectly.

Liking this very much. Great you had these cool props handy :-)

You can't get much more on theme than that one Ruth ....really nicely done.

Excellent captive photo Ruth. Thought provoking for me.

Obviously the cuffs were "to hand" (badoom tish) ;) but a really nice composition and captures the theme nicely :)

Just the sort of thing you have hanging around, he...he....:)
Nicely done powerful, or should i say dominant:p

Appreciate you all taking the time to comment....thanks! :-)

Great capture :)
The strong contrast works really well though I think a slightly sharper focus on the hands would make it even more powerful.

:agree: The lighting on your week 2 is bang on! Also a cool edgy idea for the theme.
I love your 'Metal' shot, that one really stands out for me.

Nicely on theme, as said the high contrast B&W work really well but I agree maybe a little more space.

Hi Ruth, really like you image. What i like about is the dof you have chosen and the chain that is in focus more than the cuffs, this changes the meaning quite a lot. Loving the processing too.

Three great starting shots Ruth, but the elephant is outstanding! How far away from it were you?

Spot on theme and nicely focus on the cuffs. Would prefer to see a bit more space on both side.
Great lighting in your week 2 shot!

Well done,
Oscar

Great sharpness and focus on the cuffs and the bg works brilliantly. I like the clenched fists, too.
Morning, captive, quite close to the edges, but nice conversion and nice shallow DOF.

Cheers.

Great capture, loving the contrast and nice and sharp (y)
Nice use of DoF, lovely deep black background, spot on Theme.
Nice one.

Wow, once again folks, many many thanks for looking and posting your comments. I really appreciate it :-)
For all who wanted to see a little more space around, I did give it a go, but the closer shot seems to more convey the captive feeling.

Enjoying being part of the challenge again :D

Hi Ruth. Nice image for Capture; good choice of b&w for the subject. I think having one hand out of focus detracts a little but strong image anyway.

Hi there Ruth

Love the clock, it looks very ... erm ... metallic. :)

And the cuffs ... perfect prop for the theme, and with the clenched fists out like that. (y)

Old - love the elephant great skin texture and eye lashes
Metal - clear details on the mechanism
Captive - right on theme

Week 3.....Miniature.

To give you scale, the cotton bobbin is three quarters on an inch tall. :-)

Ruth, you've called it 'captive' in the main thread (this will look stupid when you edit that ;) )
Wow, that really is small. Well done for getting such great clarity in the shot which is larger than life sized...

Thanks Chris....much appreciated. :-)

Lovely - I like the off-centre composition and your flowers fit in their 'vase' much better than mine. I like the way you have echoed the colour of the centre of the daisies with the thread, and the grey bg sets them off beautifully.
