Just upgraded Jan's CPU and it's come with Vista installed. Visually good I suppose, but the aggro I've had getting it to run older programmes! :bang:
 
compatibility mode is your friend...
 
Had my pc internals replaced a few weeks ago (mobo, cpu, memory, video card) and thought it would be ideal to upgrade to vista at the same time - the shop really didnt wanna sell me vista, said they were spending half their repair time on getting it to run some programs. iTunes is one such prog that doesn't like the new environment (wonder why :D ??? , glad I stayed with xp now...
 
I have just got an email offa Tiscali, telling me that if I upgrade to vista I wont be able to connect to the internet because of compatability issues with the modem...good job I'm still running windows 95 then:)
 
yeah, I got the same email paul.

fortunately I run XP.

I must admit I have had Vista for a couple of weeks now and keep getting the dreaded BSOD..:(
I suspect it will get sorted in due time but the last time I saw this was with Windows 98..:bang:

Same here with AOL.
Just after Xmas I bought a new laptop with Vista pre-installed, it wasn't available then but would only cost a mere £14 to activate as opposed to £70? if you were buying it, I was very pleased...however...my BT modem isn't compatible. Seems I need to buy either Thompson or Netgear but since I've heard that Vista has quite a few issues I'm not going to bother.
 
Did the same... upgraded the cpu (amd athlon 64 x2), memory, hdd and mo'bo' and added Vista 64. Not had to many problems with it, all my old programs still work (office '97 pro, PS Elements 2.0). I did have to scour the internet for all the latest drivers.

No issues with modems/broadband though, as I use a Linksys ADSL router/4 port switch which acts as my internet gateway. The computer is set up to access the internet via my local network, same with my laptop (running XP) but with a wireless conection.

The Canon EOS 350D has to be set to "Printer conection" mode before it will work with Vista 32/64 and it will only alow you to use the camera like a card reader, no access to the camera at all :(
 
Upgraded from XP MCE to ultimate (I needed media centre and remote desktop) on my main box, both the laptops had vista premium upgrades which arrived this week. Also upgraded my box at work to Vista business.

Loving it and not looking back - only slight issue I had was the packard bell upgrade for sue's laptop, it reckoned it could do an upgrade, so I backed up sue's stuff to the external HDD before as a precaution and went ahead, it took three hours and the upgrade utility from PB had left something incompatible on there and so it BSOD'd on bootup. I slapped the vista disk in, removed the partition, installed a clean copy (always my preferred scenario) and not had a single problem.
 
I thought Vista Aggro was a place in Spain...
 
Not had a single BSOD on vista, not one. That's in about 2 months of usage.

we're too kind, vista users have enough issues without us rubbing it in :p

i was thinking of updating my desktop to vista tho. i saw it running the other day and was rather impressed. but i may leave i until sp1 comes out and they have it all working smoothly.

As Matty says CT, find compatibility mode in the Control Panel. In XP it was next to useless IMO but I've got a couple of older programs to run on Vista that didn't want to know initially, and they've been running like a dream ever since :thumbs:
 
Had a couple of BSOD's, but nothing major.

Also had the Tiscali e-mail, but this is only for the driver that comes with the little blue SAGEM modem. if you're on a wireless network there are no problems.

I'm sure it will settle down eventually but until it does its not causing me any real problems and its a joy to use. No program compatibility issues - CS2, CS3, iTunes, Bibble, Canon stuff, remote printers, Office 2003, Lightroom, Photomatix, Benvista Photozoom Pro all running fine :D
 
I didn't find compatibilty mode seemed to solve anything for me. All the problems such as they were were with older programmes- games mostly. The probs are all resolved now, more by luck than judgement, although downloading updates and drivers seems to have helped. :shrug:

I do like Vista now I'm finding my way around it and it seems very stable so far. I was thinking about upgrading to Vista on my machine which is XP Media Centre Edition, but having downloaded the Upgrade Adviser which checks your machine for likely problems I think I'll leave it a while. It actually recommends my machine is suitable for upgrade, yet it details enough possible issues to make me think I could have real problems sorting them out. :gag:

LOL - its been well behaved recently - just doesn't like car journeys in the cold :)
 
I've just bought a new laptop with Vista Home premium installed , I'm thinking of upgrading it to XP SP2 ..........
