Evening all. I am taking 'er indoors to Bruges next month for our 25th wedding anniversary !!

Has anyone any advice/experience of good places to visit with the camera please ??

Paul.

It's been a few years since I went to Brugge, in fact long enough ago that all my shots are on film and archived away.

What I do remember is that its a bit of a photographers paradise, the buildings are loveley and at night there are lots of nice reflections of the lit buildings in the canals.

There is a big fish market IIRC, and the main cathedral is worth a look.

Most of the insides of the buildings are very dark, lots of wood panelling.

Have a nice time

David

I was there a few weeks ago. Its a small enoughplace that you can cover the majority of it in a couple of days without missing anything. The fish market is behind the town hall. Found that eating in the main square was over priced and not the greatest quality but eating slightly further away was much cheaper and some great food. The beer and chocolate shops were great but the same items were available in the supermarket at a fraction of the price too.

As others have said the main squares, Markt & Burg, have lots of interesting buildings. You can get a good shot of the belfry from Rozenhoedkaii with reflections in the canal. The buildings were floodlit in the evenings both times I went there, should be good at this time of year as you will get detail in the sky as well. If you go to the top of the belfry you can get some good shots. The Beguinage is worth a look and there are some windmills by the river at the NE of the city. Wandering by the canals can be useful if the light is right and the reflections show the colours of the houses, also good if there is a morning mist. The canal boat trips are not too expensive and give a different view.
Enjoy it :)

Many thanks 'Suvv'. Hadn't thought of going 'up top' for some shots.

Funnily enough, I was looking at Arlandria's (Vicky's) 52 thread today and she mentioned that Bruges is her favourite place in the world, so maybe you could also PM her for some ideas - she seems to have some experience of the area. :) She's also very knowledgable about where to go for beer! :D

She seems to stay in the 52 part of the forum so may not see this thread.

It's been many years since I went, so no real ideas for you, I'm afraid, but I do remember it as being lovely - hope you have a great time

Great advice above, especially about eating in the main square.

My #1 tip about Brugges - take anti-mosquito precautions with you.
