Visiting UK- advice needed for scenic places

Don't forget there is a London congestion charge for cars check out the link

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_4017688

So you need to find out if the hire car covers this or if it applies during the time your staying in London. You may be staying outside the zone so the congestion charge may not apply

Thanks Ozei and real speed, you have all been helpful :) really appreciate that. I'll sure share with you guys photos of the places once i'm back home.

I think your nearest camera shop is going to be 'Jacobs' at 124 - 126 Canon St, London EC4N 6AS tel 02076211621. It is actually on the junction with London Bridge approx 50 metres from the Monument itself. There is loads to see and photograph in the area. If you cross the Bridge you will see HMS Belfast on the left as you cross it and The Golden Hinde on the right. It is really worth catching a Thames Clipper (a ferry running from The London Eye to Greenwich) which gives you a great view of London you wouldn't normally get. Greenwich is definitely worth looking at!

Hey thanks Ozei for another great recommendation. My wife will probably prefer this than Les Miserable or Phantom of the Opera which are more 'heavy'. Probably i will bring her for 39 steps while i will catch Les Miserable myself when she is off for work.

Oh ya i am back from my 3 days trip to New Forest, Dorset Bay and Cotswold Burge on water. New forest is a great place with lots of nature to explore. We think it will probably take us at least a week to track and see the place (would be the same for epping forest), thus decided to stop over for lunch in one of the town before proceed to Dorset. Dorset is beautiful, but the weather was really bad, rain almost through the time we were there. Most pictures turned out to be covered with some raindrops. Cotswold is nice place too. Unfortunately my wife was not there to enjoy the view of the old english town.

Duggiebee, i have visited Jacob this morning before heading to Cotswold. They do not have stock for Pro x filter anymore and I think the whole world is out of stocks.

Here are some pictures i took in Dorset which i have not processed it in Aperture. So pardon me if exposure is not right or horizon not straight.

1. Durdle door, dorset. Since i cannot get Cokin Pro X filter, i use my 50mm lens with my 77mm B+W 10 stop ND filter to take the shot. (filter handheld for 40 sec). The ND filter was originally for my 16-35mm which i sold it before upgrading to 14-24mm.

3. Portland. They are not sand beach, never in my life seen such a pebble beach!

Our time there is limited and not able to catch the golden hour of the day. The rain although not very heavy, was very persistant. My poor wife have to wait under the drizzle for me, i feel so bad but yet need to get my work done.

Ok 2 more pictures here (hope it's ok to share pictures here instead of the photo section.)

.... Probably i will bring her for the 39 steps......

Don't miss it Ben - you won't regret it. It's superb stuff, one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Here's the main website http://www.love39steps.com/.

And here's a really silly trailer (and that's just for the tickets!) http://itsonitsgone.wordpress.com/2008/01/14/theatre-preview-the-39-steps-18-22-march/.

NB. Ignore the dates on the trailer page and use the main website link above to book your seats. I hope you & Mrs Ben have a jolly good time.

PPS. I hope pregnant ladies (i.e. Mrs. Ben) can't be harmed by laughing too much.:lol::lol:

Haha hopefully not some British humor that we do not understand. If it's like Mr Bean, probably we will have tummy ache after the whole show.

Ok I am going to watch 39 steps later, it better be funny. :p

I went to Camden marker this morning and I quite like it. Thanks for recommending.

Did you go into the stables area at the end? Great place.
#5 is Lulworth cove, or the next little bit to it.

Glad you're having fun

Hi Ozei, we went for the 39th steps and dont really like it. Wife was not feeling too well and we left the play halfway through. Byker28i we did go to the the stables area in Camden, nice shops around but we were just doing window shopping.

Back to reality, back to work and I have started clearing my pile of work.

Hey Ozei, please do not feel bad. Everyone has different preference, we should have read up more before deciding to go for the play.
Partially also that my wife was not feeling well which has disrupted our mood for the play.

I must thank you and all in this thread who has guided me through planning for my short London trip.

Oh ya below is the link to picutres I took during the trip.

If you want landscapes, the best place to go in the UK is Scotland. Everywhere else is choked with people, cars, street furniture, litter and over-protective land owners.

It was quite packed in Dorset too, I like the coast but seem like it is a known tourist spot. Imagine i approached about 10 surrounding B&B and all were sold out,! Ended up we have to spend 100 pound in a town hotel, Lion hotel I think. Ya next time I would like to go up north to lake district and Scotland.

My very bad experience driving back to the London apartment near London bridge. It took me about 2 hours on highway to get Heathrow, and another 1.5 to 2 hrs to London bridge. Slow traffic and jam, it's so stressful and tiring driving in the city. Never again I will drive into the
City.
