Received mine today along with the sensor loupe..it certainly does what it says but took a few goes as after first try there was more spots than when I started! The sensor loupe is amazing and gives a crystal clear view of all the dust particles enabling you to go over it again if you missed some..much better than shooting test shots at small apertures to see how many spots you have left..definitely rate it but think its a bit pricey..£99 for both.

Which model of the Artic butterfly did you get?

Tom

Cheers

Thats one I am looking at myself

Its pretty good!..I would say the sensor loupe is well worth getting with it..

Yea go on spend my money:bonk:

Watch out for the arctic butterfly picking up grease from the chamber and smearing the sensor. I have done it and I know a few more who have as well, and you cant get the grease off, it's gota go for a pro clean then.

Thanks for the tip mate...tbh when I first done it it did look smeared on the sensor?? wonder if I may have done that...few more goes over it and its fine and spotless now though..

I did exactly that. I have cleaned off the grease with swabs, but now I need to get the grease off the AB brush head somehow.

Will the cleaning tablets you can buy remove the grease?

I did exactly the same, and was seriously worried it wouldn't come off. In the end I bought some sensor swabs and they cleared it no problem.

Threw the arctic butterfly away because it was covered in grease (didn't realise you could clean it). Plus, I'd had to buy the swabs anyway so no need for the AB anymore...

I've just ordered some of the Visible Dust Brush Cleaner. Checked my sensors last night and they do need a clean so can't delay any more. Will have to get some distilled water too.

Just ordered the Actic Butterfly pro kit (includes larger brush size for full frame sensors and focusing screen brush), Eclipse E2 fluid and swabs.

I have that kit having bodies with all 3 sensor sizes but find I just use the 1.6 size for all my bodies keeping away from the chamber, that seems to avoid the grease problem.

Ordered a Flutterby to move the dust caused by my 100-400 on the 5D!
Now we are into grease on the sensor, nightmares or what!

God knows why there is such a song and dance about this topic.

Sensors dusty, use the butterfly, carefully!

Sensor is shatty, wet clean it!

No matter which way you go, just be careful and sensitive to a sensitive piece of equipment........

OOI, do people change lenses without shutting down?

As far as I can tell from the body-lens contacts, it makes no difference whether the camera is on or not. The sensor charge is is "gated" and is really too low to atract dust even if the shutter was fired as the lens was being removed.

I've had a 5D for 11 months now and not had to clean it yet despite using it pretty much exclusively with a bunch of primes that get changed as required. The 30D that's dedicated to macro and the MP-E has required cleaning twice...maybe the proximity to pollen and the extension/retraction is the culprit.
