Virgin Mobile Sim

FWIW

I use PAYG SIM but if I was on contract and received what you describe I would be very suspicious of it being some sort of scam e.g. someone is trying to takeover your phone number.

I would treat it like 'the bank ringing you' i.e. don't respond to the email but contact them by an alternate email and/or phone them to discuss it.

Thanks for that, I will give VM a call.

My wife was with Virgin and she got a new SIM without asking. A system upgrade or some such thing. Give them a call if you are concerned.

I seem to recall we got new ones without asking, from memory it was something to do with 5g rollout where the old sim did not work.

Well every day can be a school day........my initial thought was that by some method (?) someone had criminally requested the SIM but it would be going to a different address.

Still, surely can't hurt to raise the question with VM mobile as appropriate!

I got mine last week, it is 5G capable. The instructions said to send a text from your old sim and then wait for a message telling you to put the new sim in. I never got the message but when the old sim stopped working I just put the new one in and after about 10 minutes it was OK.
I did get a message pre-warning me though.

Do VM still use Indian call centres? That was the main reason I told them to do one about 4 and half years ago, don't get me wrong I'm not racist, I just don't have the patience to deal with call centres who don't understand an old school Yorkshire accent.

Yes Virgin Media do use Indian call centres, I spoke to a lovely Indian lady and she sorted it out.

Yes they do and a lot of them speak better English than I do. I'm not racist either.

Can't help yourself can you?

I have to say I too struggle with the Asian based call centers sometimes,
and those in Scotland, that have a "Hard" accent. ( Glaswegian I think it is)

I can just about cope with Sky (I am strongly considering moving to them for Fibre and Landline soon, Plusnet are being annoying)

As I've said before, the Welsh accent at the end of the DVLA's "help" line is pretty impenetrable. I can understand Glaswegians pretty well (well, the accent, not the attitudes!) having worked there for a while many years ago and my FiL had a broad Sheffield accent so I can handle that. Most of the subcontinental call centres put many UK based call centres to shame.
