Folks, i have been with Sky for my tv, phone and internet from the very start however the internet speed where i am is terrible.

VM have now came into the area and offered much faster internet/tv etc. is it worth doing? Are they reliable? I would likely just take the 500Mbps internet( only get about 23Mbps max just now) just now and possibly add tv at a later date.

Do mean Virgin Media?

I have no problem with them at all.

Worst outages and customer service ever. Switched back to Sky who are way better.

I took a risk. Had Sky for the tv and BT for the internet (happy with both), but the staff offer to move over to VM was just too good to pass up.

I was fortunate in hat I switched to Sky before the pandemic. I've worked from home for almost 2 years and haven't had a single outage. Virgin was weekly and sometimes for hours at a time. I shudder to think what the last 2 years would have been like if I hadn't switched.

When I went with Virgin originally, it was £60 for broadband, tv & phone. Within 4 years, it was £113! When I told them I was switching to Sky, for £75, they offered to reduce it to £95!

Not had a problem with VM......

Yeah, I'm paying about £79 for all TV, landline, unlimited mobile plan and "500+" Mbps.

Through a hard wired connection, I get >600 meg most days. Through a VPN it's 250-300. My wife uses wi-fi and a different VPN so she's limited to 100+ though that's at the same time as my 250.

In a year we've had one planned outage which they warned us about a week in advance with several reminders. A day or so after this week had an unplanned outage for about an hour.

Other than that, occasional slow downs that dip us in to double digits of speed but nothing that stops streaming 4k or video conferencing.

Never spoken to CS.

Im only taking the internet just now so hoping that doesnt have too much outage. The increase speeds are a big draw for me but it needs to be reliable.

If you are an O2 customer you could get a free boost to the next fastest speed available.

Been with the for a while and apart from two issues last year it has been fine.

We have been with virgin and before them NTL for ages ,apart from the odd issue ( which have been quickly sorted out) we have no problems.
I pay £69 /m for 100mg BB, Unlimited calls and Large TV package

Do VM still use Foreign call centres? That's the main thing that puts me off, don't get me wrong I'm not racist, I just don't have the patience to deal with people who don't understand my strong local accent.

Plus where I live I can't get Virgin anyway, which is weird because according to their post code checker, I live at 242 on my road, and 244, just across the way, can get Virgin.

I think they us to out source some of there work to South Africa, not sure if they still do

We have used VM for many years and have had very few problems. The speed does vary but generally fast enough. Wired is the fastest and wireless is subject to the usual problems so you may need extenders/MESH system.

The annoying part is having to re negotiate every 18m/24m. If you threaten to leave you get through to retentions and you get a good deal. I gather such deals may become more difficult.

I have to be honest i have 100mb VM and have had for years and its bullet proof
I don't think i have had more than a handfull of outages or issues in 20 years
its not cheap i pay £35 a month but i wouldnt move for a minute

spot on i have the same when i ring up its like £5 off a month or jog off

Seems very cheap. Does that include sport and movies?

Yes. It's their Ultimate Oomph bundle which currently sells for £89. Two boxes, Sky Movies, Sky Sport HD

I bought it on a Black Friday deal and am protected against their recent price rises at the moment.

I have been with VM for several years now. For BB I get 110 M b/s down and 12 M b/s up. I have a TV package and it include BT sports channels so I get to see lots of Premiership rugby. I think there is some football as well but would never watch that. There was just one occasion when someone dug up a major FO cable in a main road and we lost our service for 5 days; we were given a refund for that period.

Another vote for VM here, been with them for longer than I care to remember. Broadband is really fast download but the upload speed lacks punch - I currently have 1Gb download but a measly 50Mb upload. It is, however, rock steady at all times of the day and night.

I have had the Ultimate Oomph bundle with 2 boxes and 2 mobile phones connected but when I recently called to renegotiate a discount the best deal required the phones to be moved over to O2. Total bill, including the phones, is just over £70/month. Being a new O2 customer got me 6months free Discovery+ and a few other add-ons. Protected against price hikes for 18 months so what's not to like?

In answer to that question; their Indian support centre(s), but you can always ask to speak to a native English speaker. I'm sure the support technicians in India are perfectly capable of helping but I have a bit of a hearing/comprehension block when it comes to Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi accents.

And that right there is the crux of my own problem with Foreign call centres, some people think I'm racist, falsehood, they don't understand Yorkshire accents, not my fault or problem, do you see? :D

I've been with Virgin for over a decade, with few problems. My speed has been upgraded at no cost from 1Mb to now 100Mb. I had been having connection drop out over the last year or so, mainly at night for a few minutes. The disconnections were so short and infrequent that I didn't get in touch with them about it.

A couple of weeks ago my WiFi went down, though the wired connection was still OK. I phoned them, spoke to a British chap, although nothing to say he wasn't working in a foreign call centre, ;) and after doing some tests, he said that it sounded like a new router was needed. He said that if they put in the order before 5:30 , it would normally be delivered next day, possibly the day after. As the call was about that time, I assumed it would take two days, but it arrived the next day. :) The WiFi is not only working again, but the signal is a lot stronger than before. I think I had a very old router from them.

Saying all that, I am considering moving as they are putting their monthly price up by over £3. And after not long renegotiating a contract, not sure I can be bothered doing this every year, when there are cheaper deals. A good thing to be said though is that when the raise their prices they give the option of moving mid contact for free. Noth sure if they all do that.

Very solid here with little downtime since they took over NTL.

Just ordered a speed upgrade online and only had to say 'no thankyou' 738 times for the other things they tried to sell me ;)

I kept on getting outages with VM. Phone time was normally around 50 minutes to get an answer. Prices kept going up unless you said you were moving supplier.
We changed to Vodaphone for their gigabit service for around £64, free Apple TV.
Download speed around 940 Mb, upload 650Mb

Edit: BTW, I've not had a single outage in the year and a half we've had it.

This is my only gripe with VM - their upload speed is sooooo slooooow compared with the download. With a 1Gb download speed I can only just about get 50Mb upload :(

That's why I'm kind of glad I can't get Virgin, I don't have the patience to say "no" in Indian more than a handful of times before the bad words start flying.

I ended up at an Indian call centre when I called my local bank about closing my account. However, if you dial the right number for Virgin it takes you direct to UK support or at least this worked for me.

Ok when it works, but maintenance isn't their forte.
One of their cabinets is opposite my house, its in an awful state.
More than once I have closed it despite having informed Virgin of its open condition.

Been with Virgin and their cable predecessors about 20 years.
All problems fixed promptly and the BB uptime must be over 99%.

As trouble free as anything in life can be.

Well im off to a bad start. A team came today to run cable to the outside of my house, they are saying a duct is broken and an engineer will come and fix it so my install on Sat is cancelled. Got a nessage with an alternative date which is no use. It was done through text which i had to reply to. I get a message in broken English which i replied, they adked my name and my VM 3 letter code—— what bloody code? They now cant help unless i give them my VM code- i have t been set up as yet and have no emails, letters, calls from them so have no bloody code, now they cant help me any further unless i give them this.Looks like i will just cancel as its not worth the hassle dealing with it and nade harder when your replies come in badly broken English…. Arrrrrggghhhhhh.

Did you not get an email confirming your order?

Got nothing. I gave my details at time of ordering including my email address. I was told i would get an email but didnt so called the sales guy and he had written my addy down wrongly( great start). I gave him the correct email but never heard a thing from them until they turned up today to run cables towards my house

Once I can give 30 days notice to Plusnet on the 17th of April for when the contract expires on the 17th of May, I am strongly considering going with Sky for Fibre and Landline, I've been a loyal Sky TV customer since 1998 both at Home and at the Flat.

Any updates on this - how have you found it?

By BT contract is up - on 500mb package. Pretty good, rarely get outages or anything dodgy happening and have been with BT for years and years. Cant really fault., But there is a 1gb virgin deal on for a good £10 less a month - the cautious part of me thinks of staying as if it aint broke dont change it!
