Edit My Images
Yes
Whilst on holiday recently I shot about 500 photos during the course of a week and spent another week going through them when I returned home, kept about 100 in the end :|

It occured to me that things might have been a lot easier, and less time consuming, if I had had a device with me that would have allowed me to view the images in a larger scale than the screen on the camera.

So my question is, what would be a good option?

Wouldn't really need mobile internet so have discounted the Ipad and my laptop is a bit bulky to drag around.

Any suggestions?

Buy yourself a netbook, far more versitile than a dedicated viewer because you can put on photoshop and other programs and the storage capacity is really good too!

Agree with a netbook - especially one running Faststone. But why do you want to spend time on holiday reviewing and deleting images?

Why discount an ipad???? You can save yourself £100 by NOT buying the 3G version Therefore it is as versatile as your laptop in terms of needs but has a better battery life and is a lot lighter :)

Also, I can't see how it makes things faster, you will still spend the same amount of time viewing and deliberating which to keep/throw. You are simply wasting good holiday time to a laptop or other device!

Hmm not really wasting time, no different from reading a book. I also tend to holiday in the Uk so it's something else to do when it's raining!

For years I've taken my 17in laptop everywhere with me overseas. No, it's not a big deal for me size and weight wise. Back in March I got a Samsung 10in netbook and took that instead. Whilst not as quick as the much older 17in, it was perfectly adequate for viewing, renaming, adding gps data etc. Plus it was still ok to watch the tv progs I'd brought along as avi files.

I know some cameras allow you to plug in a screen to view the images, might make viewing them easier at the end of each day and you can delete as you go :)

if you can do this with yours :)

Epson P5000 or P3000 are ideal :)

I was sort of in the same boat when I went to OZ a couple of years back and opted for the viewer, the Epson's are good, but I chose the Giga vu pro from Jobo. The reason's, well at the time, luggage restrictions on flights had just come in, Laptops were still expensive for anything worth its salt and space, the Jobo was the same size as a Nintendo Game Boy. If I had that choice now, would probably go down the netbook, laptop route not only for editing capabilities, but access to the internet and other things. Battery life on the viewer ain't all that great, couple of hours at best, although its a media device, so you can store movies and music as well as images. My device had a 40g drive. Canon also do a viewer as well, but these devices are similar in price to a budget laptop, so it depends what you require.

get a netbook or a wifi ipad or just view them on a tv and delete what you want to

Someone's just put a Samsung NC10 in the for sales which might suit you - they're a nice piece of kit.

I've got a Vosonic VP8860 which will perform full back-ups from cards, allow copies, slide shows etc etc. It also supports RAW including from my 7D etc which I'm not sure all the other viewers do. It also supports movies, has in-built radio, music storage etc too.
There many good and bad bits about it but it may do what you want so worth a look.
