I'm looking to set up a webcam which I will be able to view over the internet.

I don't particularly want to use a 'hosting' service or have to create a website for it. Does it have to connect to a PC which then has to stay on all the time, or is it possible to connect straight to a router and then just bookmark an IP address to view the stream?

Any pointers welcomed!

TIA

Youll need a dyndns account or similar for starters as your ip will be dynamic

Lost already!

Similar to something from these guys you mean?

ETA: Is it easier to have it connected to a PC which stays on and then 'uploads' to a service perhaps? (it is an option if so)

unless you use an IP cam that can plug directly into your router the i would say more or less all web cams are USB and need a computer switched on to view

either way your still need to set up a dyndns account if you have a dynamic IP address if you want to view the camera over the net

then you would need to use something like this if you decide to use a webcam

an IP cam is probably the better way to go as it will have it's own webpage built in that can be accessed via dyndns once you work out how to set it up

good luck...

A Foscam ip camera won't break the bank and can connect directly to your router making it viewable from any pc on the network or via the net, dyndns is the easiest way to get that set up.
