I bought my daughter an 800dwhich she’s had nearly 2 months now.
We were using the other day and I noticed some strange behaviour. Think it might end up going for repair but thought I would mention it here first in case anyone else had seen anything like it.

When I framed the shot. Camera on tripod in manual mode. ISO 100. Image stabilisation off. Remote shutter release. Firstly I noticed a rectangle in the view finder on the bottom left that I had never seen before. But as I moved back to take the pic, I heard a noise from the camera. Checked the framing and it had moved down 10-15% of the viewfinder area. Reframed took a few pics and it happened again. But all the pics are showing the image incorrect with framing too low. Also the images have lots of noise. And a weird horizontal reflection.

Not sure if the mirror may be causing this or something in the viewfinder prism

I sounds like the focussing screen has become detached.

That’s what I was thinking. My daughter has the camera atm but I was going to check that and try a different lens before sending it for repair.

Not sure if I need a special tool to open / release the focus screen ?

Opening up the camera will invalidate your warranty.
