Hi all, I am just starting out in my growing passion of Photography, I would like to ask you all one question, this is as follows..:)

On taken a photograph, what are the pros and cons for using the View finder to take pictures or the LCD?
As I see many people using only the View finder and others using the LCD to view the subject, any thoughts on this, many thanks Lance...

Personaly i think it all boils down to personal preferance?
I have never likes using a view finder and always prefered the lcd.
But i dont have a DSLR yet! So this will probably change.

Well most DSLRs you need to look through the viewfinder, features like liveview arn't actually designed to be like LCDs that you look through to take every photo like on a point & shoot, it's for specific circumstances.

LCDs are completely useless outdoors anyway, you can't see a damn thing on them particularly when it's sunny.

On a DSLR I always use the viewfinder, on a point and shoot I use the LCD.

Viewfinder all the way for me.

Depends what camera you're using. If it's a compact then LCD all the way as the viewfinder doesn't match up with the lens in my experience. Having said that it's 3 years since I've used one.

I you are shooting DSLR then viewfinder has been the only option anyway until very recently. I don't have live view on my DSLRs but if I did I would only use it at times when it is difficult to see through the viewfinder i.e very low or high held shots. Other than that the viewfinder wins hands down for actually being able to see what you are shooting as you get to look through the lens and evaluate depth of field and composition immediately.

Aside from that you'd look like a chump taking pictures on the LCD if you were using a DSLR plus you'd lose stability so there's more chance your shot would be fuzzy.

Also another thing about liveview is that it won't tell you which AF point the camera is using to focus, another reason I rarely use it.

Plus due to whitebalance settings, the shot will look completely different after the photo is taken compared to what the camera shows you on the LCD.

When I had a compact camera (Kodak P880), I used the LCD but now I have a DSLR I can only use the viewfinder.....

With my Z2, I mix and match as the view on the screen works. The LCD is rotated to the view finder anyway so the view is the same in either position.
