Has anybody got any experience with 'video sender' units please ??

I am talking about the gadget you plug into your TV (??) and the unit fires the signal wirelessly and you pick up the signal on another TV in another room.

I have a dim and distant memory of these units about 25 years ago, don't think they were much cop but wondered if they are any better with today's technology ??

I'm sorted in the lounge, want to send the signal to the bedroom TV.

Yeah, there are two types. 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz

A neighbour who lives above me has a 5.8GHz one, I can pick it up on my FPV goggles/groundstation, as it uses ImmersionRC frequencies, so I have to be careful when testing my FPV gear, although its license free, interference from nearby 5GHz or 2.4GHz devices should be expected and can be rectified by moving either the sender/receiver, the offending device or both.

Thanks for that Emily.

Would it be too much trouble to get the make/model off your neighbour please ?? Would be good to look into something that someone has experience of.

I can ask next I see them, in the meantime have a look at this set http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/58ghz-mini-video-sender-a31jl

5.8GHz is where you want to be, as it isn't badly affected by wifi routers, microwave ovens or cordless telephones, 2.4GHz in what is effectively an RF soup of wifi and other 2.4GHz emitting devices can make a 2.4GHz AV sender unusable.
With my 5.8GHz FPV set up I can get 5 miles out of it with proper antennae, skew planar, CP, helical and patch antennas, obviously a typical AV sender will only cover your house depending on its construction and they transmit at a lower power level with directional antennas, so the two units have to be 'line of sight', its great for beaming into the next room, some even have a remote extender so you can control the sky box, TV or what ever you've connected with the device's remote control.

I remember a divice called a "Rabbit" that transmiited from one video/TV recorder to another but it was deemed illegal so they stopped selling them.

I used to use Maplin's 5.8Ghz video senders. They were OK but were very finicky about positioning.

There was only about 5m between the sender & receiver via a floor & solid brick wall from lounge to bedroom but if the wife had been dusting and moved either of the units it could take a while to get a decent picture.

How would you change channel from the remote location? Would you have to go to the source?

I used to use a slingbox to connect to and control my TV and other devices over the network, which allowed wireless connection via my router.
