Hi
Anyone use or used AVS Video Editor ? If so what do you think.?
Thanks

OK so nobody uses AVS Video Editor, I do now and must say if you want a good priced Editor try it. It works for me, and the tutorials are really good.

I bought it a while ago when I was wanting a simple editor that was better than VideoPAD and would load/preview .MTS files.
But it's a bit clunky, takes ages to start up (staring at the splash screen for way too long) and is no longer my preferred editor.
Recently I got MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 which I like more. Especially the ability to save slices as 'takes' which are then treated as media files..

There is nothing quite like premier by Adobe, I've always used it and had a play with final cut too.. they are the best tools IMO

Hey Sledger,
I have Magix Photos to CD and DVD and have been real pleased with it and ease to use. So might well go for your suggestion above, but two questions if i may.
1, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013, will it handle MTS files ?.
2, How is the finished quality for HD viewing ?.

EDIT, found an answer to question 1 HERE

Thanks

[1] Yes, my PANASONIC SD700 produces only .mts files so every editor I try must be able to work with them. MME does so very well. Better than the other editors actually.

[2] Excellent.

Why on earth are you trying to edit transport stream? it's designed to be robust over satellite links.

Why on earth would you ask me this question in that way unless you assumed I was a complete fool and knew not what I am doing.
Please do a little googling and find out more about why high-end consumer camcorders using the AVCHD format save the files as .mts or .m2ts.

Thank you

Hey Sledger. Magix Plus works very well, as easy as my copy of Magix photos to DVD. Thanks for the help.

I know consumer cameras write AVCHD to mts. The question still stands. MTS is a terrible format to edit. Converting to an edit format would help enormously.

Being a complete novice, can you explain more, are you suggesting that the recording format can be changed with in the camera ?.

Thanks.

Not at all, modern editors are built to edit this format directly, think of it as the RAW of video formats. Converting to a lossy format first would be pointless as well as a waste of time.
Thanks for you comments, but I know what I'm doing very well, have been doing it for over two years quite successfully.
I don't need to explain myself and to be honest it's OT for this thread.

Good day.

Sorry, but that's rubbish. MPEG-2 transport stream is an awful format to edit. The repetition of data, the fixed packet size. It's inefficient and processor intensive. To say that converting to ProRes or DNxHD is worse is just plain wrong.

Sorry to Allan for taking over the original subject, but he may well have picked up some tips along the way.

A question if i may, I have been converting my VHS videos to DVD via Video player - DVD recorder, the recorder has now packed up, so was thinking about Video to Digital.
Being a novice, would any readers know of a decent converter, i see there are many USB - AV units but have no idea if they are any good.
Any recommendations please.
