Hi All,
I study social behaviour in wild Jackdaws around Falmouth in Cornwall. My research group is part of the University of Exeter:
http://www.wildcognitionresearch.com/
This is an example of my study species and the type of rings used:
I need to film interactions between birds at feeding tables. I need to be able to identify coloured rings on individuals and record the sounds made in high quality. My requirements for a video camera are as follows:
-High Definition
-High frame rate (interactions can be fast and fleeting so the ability to slow it down for analysis is paramount)
-Separate mic input. I use high quality directional mics which i need to connect to the camera.
-Good audio sample rate
-Expandable memory and battery
-Good colours saturation and low light performance
-£500 or less hopefully
What can you recommend? I currently have some non-HD Panasonic handycams which are pretty useless with no mic input and insufficient detail to identify rings. I also have a 500D which is great for stills but lacks the frame rate and mic input needed for the type of videos i need. Not really looking for another DSLR, as their bulk and cost make them problematic for leaving running unobtrusively around field sites. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Many thanks,
Rich
