Hi everyone about a month ago I purchased a Canon 550d with its 18-55mm lens and also bought an 18-200mm lens as well.For know I am just experimenting with the camera as this is my first DSLR and the other one i have i just use it in auto mode.I took a picture of the sun coming down and would like to post it so someone can tell me about the good(if there are any) and the bad points of this photo i took

Good points imo are you've captured the sun quite well with a nice orange sky, bad points are again imo, the foreground isnt very interesting, eigher is the middleground. It might have looked better to silluet the whole foreground almost dark so you cant see much at all.
 
Hey Jonathan, I like the the sun in 2 of your pics, I feel bad, but I have to agree with Hotshots that the fore & mid ground in a couple of shots are uninteresting. Though I do quite like the one shooting up at the sun though the a gorg/canyon. The flare bleeding over the rock and the sun being the subject.
 
It doesn't do a lot for me. My iPhone could easily take the same photo. That's only because the scene has nothing going for it, so it's not really down to the way you took the photo. The eye behind the camera is more important than any piece of equipment. Have a look at some photos you like that were taken by others and then ask yourself how you could create something similar.
