Hi all,
feeling very lucky as i got a load of jessops vouchers for my birthday today, so picked up a sigma 24-70 f2.8 in the sale, already was a bargain with £58 quid off, and the vouchers nearly paid for the rest of it!!:woot:
:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:

also was allowed to order a 55-250 IS, but had to pay for it myself :naughty:

so feeling quite pleased with myself

went down to the beach but wasn't hopeful as it was grey and stormy, but the cloud opened just around sunset and i was able to get some great pics with my new lens

just wondering it says the lens is a macro, but i can't see a swith or anything to make it macro? anyone got this lens and know how it works , i'd appreciate some tips on using

cheers
Marcus

congrats on getting the 24-70...it's a belter of a lens .when they say macro, what they mean is that you can get pretty close to your subject, but magnification wise...it'll give you 1:3 at best.

true macro is 1:1 magnification, which requires a "macro" lens as such.

hope this helps....

thanks guys
cheers for the info stan, it's not really macro then?
it's odd because it seems to have two ways of switching between AF and M by sliding the collar up and down, and a switch near the body end.
have just been looking at uv and cpl filters....ouch....i guess 82mm is at the large thread size..........
off out to capture some penguins tomorrow.....not literally
cheers

happy birthday to you indeed its meant to be a good lens.

I've got the lens and it does the job nicely! I've had it almost a year...and still don't understand the dual switches for MF..but there we go!

I have the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8 and it's a great lens. I also have the Canon 55-250 IS but have yet to go out and play with it. Roll on a bit of time off and decent weather!!

The collar movement from MF to AF just stops the collar rotation from focusing (so when you turn it it doesn't affect the focus). I guess it's to stop you moving it accidentally when using AF.

thanks for the tips guys
just been to pick up my 55-250 from the depot, having a play with it now, looks like the IS does a great job, will enjoy seeing what it can deal with, quite impressed with the small size and weight of it for the amount of zoom, and the pics are looking good too :)
cheers

Wish I had that luck. Can't even spend my own money.

Choccy...

I've been eyeing up a Sigma 24-70 lately. It's an expensive hobby is it not?
