very funny Sony advertisements

Change the thread title to 'Mildly amusing adverts', unless your one of those camera snobs in which case they're hilarious. I've got a D7000 to learn photography with which was quite expensive, and I bought a couple of extra lenses too. I guess that makes me 'DSLR Gear No Idea'.

Ha ha ha! Sony you crack me up I'm sooooo going to buy a Sony camera now. Not insulted at all.

;)

Eh!?

This one was hilarious:

"How To Take Stunning Photos With the Sony a850 DSLR - Sony"

:coat:

guess I'm a sideline hero. :D well, more of a back-of-crowd hero where I have never gotten anywhere early enough for a good spot.

I think that the low number of replies shows that some of the stereotypes maybe hit a bit too low / close to home for some of the forum members!

Some amusing videos on that channel. Can't see how anyone can be insecure enough to get offended by them though.

What I'm seeing is experienced photographer's laughing at inexperienced photographer's.

Nahh
Get some helium guys!
What i see in these shorts is a funny parody of the types of people who fork out tons of cash on the types of gear they either don't need, is inappropriate or just for the look.
I personally hate the whole "DSLR! DSLR" thing and can't stand the acronym. Its Bound to end up in the Collins!

Is Sony being too clever for its own good?

With the 'all the gear no idea' thing, the problem is the 'no idea' bit. Getting a smaller Sony NEX camera is not going to change that.

Thought they were funny though :)

I saw myself, at some point in my romance with photography, in each of the series of videos. On that level, I found the videos funny.

I deleted the playlist from my FB wall. Most of my friends there are less experienced photographers (because they don't give a fart about photography as a pursuit, merely as a means to an end - a perfectly legitimate perspective), and I realised that it was inevitable that they would perceive my posting of the videos as condescending.

The videos are about the "DSLR gear, no idea". I see the value in making the point that cameras don't take great photos, it's people who do so. But the videos don't distinguish well enough (or at all, in some places) between the gear-head idiot, who believes that buying expensive gear will somehow improve their choice of subject matter, image composition or wot-not, and the beginner/enthusiast who's simply on the learning curve and will in time reap the benefits of their initial DSLR investment.

I'm now rather hoping that as few of my friends as possible saw the post. I don't consider myself at all, in any way, a superior photographer just because I have a comparatively in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for the photography medium. By posting the playlist, I fear I've given my friends a very wrong impression of me, and/or my view of them.

Sorry for being long-winded. :exit:

I think you worried a bit too much and if any of them saw it before you removed it and then notice its gone it will seem worse than just leaving it on there if you ask me.

Seeing as everyone is using Sony chips (sensors) now its pretty much all the same crap, different bodies

Nikon do. Canon don't, 'blad don't, PhaseOne don't, Fuji don't, Leica don't.

Not sure about the other brands, but I doubt the 4/3rds sensors are sony's either.

A sensor alone does not make a camera line up. It's the lenses that are Sony's problem. Give them time though, I'm sure they'll sort it.

Hmm...it's funny that some seem threatened by these clips. It's not a brand thing, its about big cameras versus little ones. Sony make both, so its hardly having a pop at canikon.

Personally, I see myself in most of these.

Yeah, Sony sensor in the om-d.
Or is it Panasonic?
Pretty sure its Sony

Well, if that's the intention, there's no indication of it. They'd have been better juxtaposing the two instead of labouring on numpties with big cameras.

Nikon and Canon make simple-to-operate cameras too, so it's not distinguishing the Sony brand at all that way anyway.

Hasselblad Lunar, Leica x2, Olympus OM-D and newest PEN have Sony sensors.

I thought it was Sony's NEX division taking a light-hearted pop at the Alpha division (As I only spotted a Sony a700 and Minolta 70-200 being used).

Or that some of us already seen them and found them at best mildly amusing, and didn't feel the need to post that we've seen 'em already in here ... until someone posts a silly reply like yours? People should stick to speaking for themselves. Why all this second guessing others? If some don't find it funny ... well, that's their view on it. No need for the dissecting. We all have differing senses of humour. I laughed a little when I first saw them, but ... hilarious? hardly. And offensive? puuullllease.

I used to be a Sony shooter btw.

Exactly this.

The one with the lens guy droning on was mildly amusing, the rest were pretty lame.

Why the assumption that people who don't find them funny are in some way offended by them or unable to laugh at themselves? I don't find them funny because....well....imo they just aren't very funny.

I liked the lens spotter - the rest were, imho, not up to much. I'm not offended but mildly annoyed - in the same way that I am after watching a pilot for a poor comedy show on BBC3 or Channel 4. Lens Spotter aside, the stereotypes were weak rather than insightful and the portrayals/scenarios were off the mark.

To be honest they're not hilarious, I get the idea behind them but it wouldn't make want to buy the Nex if I had just bought a DSLR!
