Very bright light bulb advice?

In our house we have a single light bulb hanging down through the stairwell - 3 stories in all. It's great when it warms up but takes about 90 seconds to reach peak brightness which isn't much help at times. If I come out of my office (middle floor) in the evening time it's pretty annoying waiting for it to light the stair case properly.

So I'm looking for advice on what bulb to replace it with - preference for low energy but priority is brightness.

Any thoughts?

LEDs are the way to go, they are available in 240v and various fittings, and are not expensive considering how long they last.
 
I think I have a couple of halogen bulbs which are instantly bright and sort of eco, but fragile though as whenever the table lamp falls over they are immediately broken.

High wattage LED preferably in bright white luminosity in that situation ,I have them all round the house they do what they say on the tin ,very bright and draw hardly any power .if cost is a problem the ones in home bargain shops are a super buy at under a fiver
 
Have to say we have replaced all our lights with LED, some different colour and wattage depending on where in the house.
Amazing instant on light, we got most of ours from some where like home bargains absolute buttons about £1 each.

Hard to get perspective on it, but it's reachable from the middle floor.

The bulb in it is great when fully lit but takes time to warm up.

I'll check out the various LED options and hopefully get something bright enough.

Then get one of the 125w CFL bulbs.

Spaces like you have usually have an 18 bulb chandelier or something! We've got 25 on our landing and it's nowhere near as glorious as what you have!

For that landing a super white l.e.d cost around a fiver in home bargains ,last for years to ,a large halogen would also give the light but tend to blow frequently
 
I want some nice dimmable GU10s for the kitchen currently it is a choice of off and night sun

Additional lighting is probably a better option - under unit lighting and/or plinth LEDs.

I've fitted 8 plinth LEDs in our kitchen switched by a PIR (also fitted in the plinth) so that you don't get blinded if you are up in the middle of the night, and you don't have to find a switch :)

The PIR I fitted to the plinth, near the hall entrance:

I fitted a socket behind the plinth and then fitted a cable and plug to supply the PIR, and then a cable from the PIR to the LED supply. I was able to fit the wiring under the floor to supply both sides of the kitchen.

slick that, I am also looking to fit some lights under my kitchen cabinets, maybe some small strips.
any thoughts.
 
They do a longer 1m one that could be easier to use

I chose this one to go under a 300mm unit on one side and chose another type for the other side (with an 800mm unit and a 1.5m unit on each side of an extractor)
I had to change them as they were not as bright as the single one on the other side. So, back to Screwfix and picked up another two of the 300mm ones :) to keep someone happy.
They are bright enough.
