Hey guys!

The names dean, and i have no experiance in photography at all if im honest :bonk:

But it is somthing im really interested in learning about and getting into, and i thought this might be a good place to start, just to familiarise myself with the whole idea of things a little bit, the equipment used ect.

So, if you please, id like reccomedations on what magazines ect i could buy, to help me do so. All help and suggestions on where to start are appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to TP!

Dean, my first bit of advice would be to hold of on the magazine purchases. I've found the folk on this forum much more useful for developing this skill than magazines as they can answer the questions you have and they always go the extra mile to help you out with any concern/query.

I went from pointing and shooting just over two years ago to feeling 'comfortable' with some of the more technical aspects of photography like shutter speed, aperture and the like - although I still haven't mastered how it all fits together!

Okay, lay off the magazines lol!

What about equipment? I think maybe the best way for me to learn is to by doing, the issue is i dont want to go and shell out for somthing flash like a DSLR, when ive hardly been around cameras before! What should i do?

Are these quieries better off being posted in another area of the forum?

If you're serious about looking into upgrading equipment, the "Talk Equipment" forum is a good place to start. Although other members often pip in on this forum and offer their pearls of wisdom.

You may find it helpful to post some of your shots up in the General Photo Sharing section so that people can critique you and guide you as to where you can improve your shots. And then you'll understand whether or not your equipment is holding you back.

What camera are you using at the moment?

As i said, im 100% new to all of this, taking photos is somthing ive hardly ever done before, and when i have its when ive been using other peoples digital cameras.

So the answer to the question is, i dont have any, but im very serious about getting into this.

Wow, an absolute clean slate. Your first introduction to cameras will be the eternal argument as to whether Nikon or Canon is a better brand. Ignore it. Nikon's better. ;)

Maybe just head straight off into the photo sharing forums and have a browse around, see what photos you like and what you're interested in taking! Then you can start thinking about whether you want your own camera, and then you can move onto budgeting!

Ive allready really decided what i want to photograph, im an animal entusiast, and study animal management at college, and so wildlife is what i want to photograph primarily.

As i said, i dont own my own camera, but this is a picture i took on a friends at chester zoo of two butterflys.
