Has anyone been or had a Veture Photography experience?

yeh a friend of mine, paid loads for it! really nice photos tho and presesnted well, however i have only seen that one album so nut sure but really liked what they did even if it was ££££

I went last week and was a good experience, and I'm going for the showing tonight, but have seen the costs now and I'm a bit worried I will really want one.

I'm expecting a bit of a hard sell, and the say you only get discounts if you buy on the night. I was wondering if in reality the phone back after a few weeks/months etc... and offer better prices.

My fiances brothers girlfriend (phew) works for Venture selling photos and yes they do offer discounts on the night but do offer discounts at a later date also - its down to which individual gets their profit bonus!

Venture do take good photographs but imho they are incredibly expensive for what you get.

We had one done a while back and its great, not brilliant. I bought a 5 "slot" 12x17cm long silver frame from Ikea for about £11 and then took pictures of the five of us on a white background using the technique I posted here. We all wore white t-shirts / vest tops for consistancy and then printed them out and cut them to size.

Everybody thought that we had been back to Venture!! (Could take that as a compliment but nobody looking had a 'togs eye! lol) - the main point was that I saved 100's!!

Yeah, I was a bit surprised at how expensive they really are.

I wasn't expecting cheap, but I wasn't expecting it to be as much as it is. That will teach me, but thanks for the info Vinny.

been there, done that..... and lost a packet!

if i could sell a hundred photos and get back the same cost as the 1 big one i bought, i'd be happy!

Yeh, me and Sarah have one of us on the wall. It's nice, but really was expensive. The experience was good fun though, and we could've just walked away with a 6x4 print for free if we'd wanted to.
It wasn't a hard-sell as such, but we wanted a decent photo of the two of us.

Well, I viewed the shots last night..... and as per DF lost a packet

I couldn't walk away without buying one as they were excellent shots, but I also couldn't justify buying as many as I wanted, even if I did actually look quite good for a change.

Ooh! is that congrats ... or comiserations on the purchase
Would love to see, but even though there's a Venture less than a mile from my house ... dont think I can afford the temptation!

I think its a bit of both Glo....comiserations on the cost but congrats on getting a stunning shot of my wife. Which I found out that the guy took using a cannon 24-70L.

Pete, I hope to have a family myself next year so when I find i'm tempted to get some shots like this again, think I will take your advice.

Does anyone know any good photographers......................just kidding guys :D

:gag: :exit:

My wife held a " truly madly baby " party ( like tupperware but for kids stuff as featured on dragons den ).

As a thank you they gave you a free session with olan mills but by the time she had had her party they had gone into administration.

So they negotiated a session with venture for a photo shoot plus a 10x8 framed photo free. We booked a time for us plus our 10 month old son.

But I was very reluctant to do it because, knowing the prices, I knew they would take excellent photos that we simply could not afford ( the cheapest is a 5x7 in a basic frame and thats £75!).

And I was right, the session was great fun, our son really played to the camera and I knew the viewing would be tough.

We discussed it before we went back for the viewing, that no matter we would not give in however good the photos were, we would choose our free one and that was it.

They put you in the viewing room give you tea or coffee and put the presentation up to music. There were about 25 photos to choose from and I would have had everyone if money was no object but it isnt.

We narrowed it down to the best 2 of the 3 of us, having already discussed that we would not allow ourselves to be talked into anything.

The photographer suggested compilations and I then explained that I thought their prices were far too expensive and we could not justify spending that sort of money on photos. He tried to offer us payment plans but they still had 14% interest rates!

We stuck to our guns and although we were entitled to a free 10x8, we negotiated 2 5x7s as a swap. I aleady had it in my mind to scan these in at home and produce enlargements.

We picked the 2 photos up a couple of weeks ago and are really pleased, I scanned them and cleaned up the images on PS and printed at 8x10 and the difference is minimal, I may get one blown up bigger at a later date but grandparents will want copies Im sure.

They state on their info that they do not sell a cd of all images but I emailed them last week asking if they would as it would be a shame that the images would just be deleted but Ive heard nothing so Im assuming thats a non starter.

So to anyone who is thinking about it, go for it, but be strong, you will have a hard time saying no.

yeah, i got offered a free 'experience' with Venture here in bristol, i never went cause of time restrictions but man do they charge an arm and a leg for that sort of stuff!! couldn't believe it. since everyone here knows its a fraction of the cost to actually shoot/print and frame an image and the excessive charges hardly justify the time spent on a shoot...its just mental! Had I gone I'd have just stuck to the one free print as per the offer, no way i was going to fork out silly money for shots I could essentially get myself....

I shelled out on the wrong side of 3 0's for a large picture with 7 images inside it, I wanted to be in the image so a home made job was never going to be on the cards :(

I really haven't regretted it at all either, both me and the boss had a great time playing with missi. she was a wee pup of 6 months at the time, so I wanted some good pics to remember the early months of her life.

It's harder than you imagine to sit in a darkened room watching 70 odd images of you having a ball on a projector screen. :bat:
