My girlfriend and I are off to Venice in late August and when we are there we would like to do a Gondola trip.

Can anyone confirm if its better to book in advance or just haggle once we get over there?

If we dont book and just go over and get one there, is it possible to get a private tour with just the two of us and are most tours around the same places?

Thanks

There are usually loads of Gondolas grouped together at the main touristy points, just haggle when you're there :D

We went a few years ago and did haggle and it was just the two of us as passengers.

Thanks, I thought that might be the best thing to do.

Very expensive though 80 euros plus. Or our could be a cheapskate and just take one of the gondolas that cross the grand canal, cheap and quick.
The wooden water taxis a beautiful, quick and comfy plus you'll see a bit more of Venice.

I'll share what my hotel concierge advised me....go to the ghetto and get one from there.

We had a really funny Jewish chap from there. It was much cheaper than off the grand canal and he was really full of knowledge.

And we had some great falafal from a little shop

Oh and definitely see the doggies palace and take a walk out to the arsenale

tip I was given was to put my camera away when asking about prices.

In the ghetto is a great restaurant, and if you cross the bridge north put the ghetto there's a great little bar that sells nice white wine for 80 cents
