The temperature isn't an issue, the temperature changing isn't an issue. Technically we are currently in an ice age as the definition is that there is ice at the poles iirc.

The issue is the rate of temperature change, and this seems to be what a lot of people are unable to get their head around, and what the infographic posted by Andy shows.

Global temperatures change, naturally, and they do so very gradually which allows life to evolve and find ways to adapt. We are currently in phase where the rate of temperature is unprecedented, and at a rate where it will become very difficult to adapt, if not impossible for some.

There looks to be some fairly rapid temperature changes on that chart that I posted to me. 450m years ago, massive rapid cooling followed by an absolutely huge amount of warming. Again around 275m years ago, just before the dawn of the age of dinosaurs, immense climate change. And look what happens following those warming events. An explosion of life. It's really not an issue and probably eventually a net positive for the planet as a whole. It's a major problem for humans but we're approaching our sell by date as a species anyway. We need to adapt or die out, the same as every other living thing on the planet.

Yes it will be impossible for some, but I wasn't tripping over Wooly Mammoths and Triceratops on my dog walk this morning either. Some species will adapt and some won't.

It is potentially quite doom and gloom as far as humans go, which I think is what most are concerned about. Of course the earth will continue to exist.

Electric cars aren't perfect, BUT, if you prioritise climate change, then digging up lithium for batteries has less impact than digging up and burning fossil fuels.

And your argument falls a little flat because it assumes we can only work on one things. If we move to electric vehicles AND make the power stations cleaner, the cars also get cleaner.

I don't prioritise climate change in almost anything I do because I really don't see it as a problem. And that's different from being a denier. It's absolutely happening. My argument is it's happened before, and it'll keep happening whether we all drive around in EVs or not.

I will agree that power generation could and should be carbon neutral. There is absolutely no reason every house in the UK shouldn't have solar panels on the roof, and little wind turbine for power generation and a base load for heating and power when the sun isn't shining and wind isn't blowing supplied by nuclear, hydro and other renewables.

What are your thoughts on these absolutely insane plans to mine the sea floor for lithium? That strikes me as one of the most environmentally unfriendly things we could do, but as long as it's supposedly helping stop climate change then anything is "green" these days. Again, the whole rhetoric around it irks me.

Your car must be parked somewhere while at home and at work. If it's parked it's not impossible to sort out a charging method that would work.

At home it is parked on the street the position varies depending where others have parked first it could be outside my house or up to 100 feet away at this point there are only 2 lamp posts in the street neither near my house. At work it is parked some distance away from any buildings or power source. I'm sure the situation will get better but at the moment the nearest charge point is 12 miles away or 30 mins driving and there is only one there so It maybe a wasted journey it is also totally in the wrong direction to where I ever go .

I'm also not sure if mining Lithium is the best way to go either Hydrogen cars seem the better option and I've also heard various environmental discussions saying electric cars won't be with us for long anyway. I'm not against anything which helps the environment/nature having been a environmental protester in my younger days. That was when I was an optimist, now I'm a realist and just know we are to thick/greedy and are doomed. It's just a shame that we are taking every other living things with us on our Highway Hell.

Disagree about climate change it’s definitely a problem but absolutely agree with you about the deep sea dredging for lithium and other minerals it will destroy habitat that hasn’t even been studied yet

By coincidence, I listened to a Radio 4 Extra programme this morning called "My Teenage Diary". This episode featured an expatriate Australian woman who was pushed into the Jehova's Witnesses when she was (I think) 15. Her description of their refusal to consider alternative world views and their obsession with controlling the discussion was very reminiscent of the current conversation.

On another forum I visit (Seat cupra) it’s noted that the auto cruise control system on many new cars has a glitch that sees it change from Mph to Kmh in an instant, the car then sees it as speeding and slams on the brakes, so far Audi/VW group haven’t created an update to sort this, since we are in the minority in using miles will other systems come out with the same problems?

I've not heard of this one. I have adaptive cruise on my Hyundai and haven't had any issues. They use mph in the US so I doubt that should be cause for concern.

I've not heard of this one. I have adaptive cruise on my Hyundai and haven't had any issues. They use mph in the US so I doubt that should be cause for concern.

Like Marc, the adaptive cruise control on my Mini has never had any issues like this. Obviously it's a BMW based system.

I don’t think that they have limiters at the moment but I assume that the same sat nav software or sign recognition for speed limits will be used?
