Vatican Gardens

Has anyone been to see these? Trying to figure out whether I need to pre book a tour or something to see them because a lot of people are saying that you can't just walk into them.

that sounds quite interesting, and rather less crowded than the Vatican seems to be these days.

I visited the Sistine Chapel 35 years ago and there were just a handful of us walking through, when I went again a few years ago it was like travelling on the tube in rush hour.
