I'm looking for a variable speed player, preferably variable for both CD and USB.

Any suggestions?
 
I'm lost on what you are after. Can you give more details
 
Probably a software job rather than hardware.
 
Might be an idea to have a look at Adobe premier elements 14. There is a section on fast and slow video editing using the time remapping tool



This may be the answer your looking for, but you don't say if for sound or video or both

Amazing Slow Downer works well, it slows down the tune but reatains the key and pitch, normal tempo change also alters the pitch, like the chipmunks if you sped it up. There's other software now, some free but AMD was one of the first if not the first. You can try it for free with restrictions of about 3 minutes of music.
 
It needs to be hardware. There are devices like the Portasound. I need something more compact.
 
Sounds like you need something DJ.
 
Surely an iPad/iPhone app could do this, add media to device and off you go

Just quick search for media player speed and there were a few apps
