Something I’ve been researching and would like some views on.
Firstly let me say I’ve never smoked a cigarette or a joint in my life, but I’m getting to a point where I’ve tried pretty much everything to control my chronic pain and nothing works except strong opioids that 1) I don’t really want to take on a long term basis and 2) the doctors won’t give to me anyway.

So a lot of attention is being put on CBD at the moment, the non phsycoactive element of cannabis. Supposedly gives a lot of benefits without the high and without being illegal.
There are many ways to take it, oils, balms, capsules, vapes and more.

From my research vape seems to be the best way of making the most of the oil as it gets into your system quicker and with less wasted by the gut and liver.

So for some one who has never smoked and has no desire to, is it weird to be considering starting vaping, purely for the cbd?
It seems one of those things where it’s a bit of a mine field with hundreds of different products available and some things work with some stuff and others don’t.
I found a “starter kit” online that has a vape mod and the other bits and it’s reccomended for cbd, that seemed to be a reasonable price. The oils however are pretty horrendous still, especially for higher concentrations of cbd.
Has anyone tried it, does it work? Is it going to be another huge waste of money chasing something to help me that doesn’t work, like so many other things before it?

Answers on a postcard...

Have you tried any other method, Tom?
As a non smoker I wouldn't think it would be your natural 1st choice? but I guess like most things, it's a case of trying until you find what works best for you.

It appears you have been researching, but whichever route you decide to try, be wary of where/who you source from.

Good luck though & hope you manage to get some pain relief (y)

You can buy cannabis oil from health food shops that only contains CBD and not THC. It’s crap though so don’t waste your money.

Proper pain relief can be obtained from taking real cannabis oil (both thc and cbd). It can be taken like a suppository rather than orally which eliminates the ‘high’ and also doesn’t bother the liver.

I haven’t tried any cbd method yet, no, but I’ve ordered a small sample of 600mg cbd oil from a reputable online source to try, but won’t turn up for a few days obviously.
It’s just the stuff you put under your tongue but from most reviews it’s pretty grim tasting, and like i said, the consensus seems to be vaping gets more cbd into your system quicker, with less oil being used.

What pain are you experiencing? My wife has TN and the CBD oil she uses she puts under her tongue and it’s absorbed straight away and helps a lot! Pm me If you’d prefer..... anything just ask

All over body pain really, mainly located in knees, elbows, wrists, fingers, lower back, shoulders, hips, neck. Also get bad migraines often.
Pain can be stabbing, throbbing, dull ache, shooting, rapid spasm, pins and needles type, cramps. all sorts. Always present in one form or another.

Hers is in her Trigeminal nerve ! Give her stabbing pains in her cheek and forehead! She’s going in on the 2nd Jan for an MVD operation !!!

I believe mine to be nerve related, even though the doctors don’t agree, well they wouldn’t because that would be admitting fault to damaging the nerves after my spinal surgery in 2011!
They diagnosed fibromyalgia, which in my eyes is just a cop out and basically means “we don’t know”. Convenient how there is no medication or or other help available for that condition.

Good luck to your wife, hope all goes well,

Doctor should put anyone with a chronic pain condition on a pain management plan. There is support for Fibro. A friend of mine has it. It's a fight though. It's worth joining a group to get help as they know all the ways to get help and get doctors to do something.

Given up with the nhs tbh. I’ve wasted so much time and money for no gain. I don’t have the energy to keep fighting them. I asked about pain management when they diagnosed it, he just said there is no need, just exercise more... he explicitly said I would not get any pain medication. As someone who exercises at least 1 hour every day, does well over 20k steps everyday and is relatively fit, that nugget of information isn’t exactly helpful.

I very much think it depends where you are, I know people in other counties who get bucket loads of drugs of the same condition, but here they just flat out refuse to give anything

'Should' being the operative word. My GP seems to always want to prescribe Naproxen (think he has shares) which has about as much effect as licking the wall. Either that or Zapain where the side effects are worse the the pain!

@TCR4x4 Is there another Doctor's practice you can go to? Some are useless with chronic conditions.

Yeah my Mrs has tried pretty much every drug out there

This is the consultant at the hospital saying this.. there is no where else to go.

Fibromyalgia appears to be one of those names given to a condition for which no other cause can be found, i.e we have tested you for A, B,C, D and E etc. No sign of those so we will assume you have Fibro (for which there is no specific test). It appears to be related to anxiety/depression (which certainly can produce all the pains you mention plus other effects).
Is mental health assessment not an option here.

Starting smoking and taking cbd does not seem a good way forward. May end up with more problems than you already have.

I gave up smoking 14 years ago.
Earlier this year I bought a vape to stop me eating while I'm watching something, and to keep my hands and brain occupied. Zero nicotine juices.
I don't use it all the time, but I don't see an issue with a non smoker taking up vaping for a good reason.

I've no experience of CBD oils etc, so can't advise on that.
I do know of a couple of people who cook with cannabis or vape it in a dedicated cannabis vape (You can't just put cannabis leaf into a vape...doesn't work like that) for medical reasons (including pain).

My wife suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibro, and a couple of other things and I was thinking about CBD oils for her pain relief as you are. Her pain medication (injections and tablets), isn't as effective as it could be, so I'd be interested in knowing how you get on.

Skip past all the 'war on drugs' rhetoric and the evils of cannabis and what it contains and research it with an open mind.
However, do research it. It's still something you are putting in your body, regardless of whether it's actual cannabis or a CBD extraction.

In not going to start smoking. I would never touch nicotine, vaping the cbd oil alone is all I would do

Marcel, how's the vaping against eating working? Like you, I gave up smoking lots of years ago an have carried (more!) excess weight ever since so have been wondering whether vaping sweet flavours might help reduce the hunger/greed and satisfy my sweet tooth as well.

Hi Tom,

My wife tried it and quickly gave up as it did nowt. Her pain comes from a botched hip op but specialists have yet to find a source (they're plumbing for Fibro - for reasons just like arclight said) and are instead focussing on pain management. She's on a literal basket load of meds now - most of which are prescribed to deal with the side effects from other meds... So...

Is it going to be another huge waste of money chasing something to help me that doesn’t work?
It was for us.

That’s sad to hear. Really boils my blood the amount of people I’ve spoken to,who have had botched ops and then their problems get blamed on fibro.
I still don’t get why everyone else is offered pain management though, and I was point blank refused it. Just weird.

Did you watch the programme where 5 elderly celebrities went to California to report on Cannibis usage. Bobby George took some for his pain management and has carried on using it here. I think he was using the oil.

Judging from others who vape (i don't smoke) as a photographer you'll love vaping, seems to be a gadget minefield :D

Good luck

I’ve already told myself to be careful. I know what I’m like. I get into a new hobby with full force and buy all the best gear available, then soon after realise I’m not that into it..
Hence why I have a cupboard of very expensive bass guitars that I can’t play, a very expensive computer system I don’t use, a lot of expensive gym equipment that’s in storage and a very expensive road bike and associated gear that’s not been touched in 4 years!

Did you order it from Medivape

No, I’ve only ordered some normal oils in varying strengths , a balm and some gummy bears from cbdoils so far. Should be here by the end of the week.

I’ve seen some vape oil and a vape kit on iceheadshop that looks reasonably priced but haven’t ordered anything yet.

I'd keep pushing your GP, or - change surgeries. Our surgery was (still is?) terrible and ranked as one of the worst in the country. We've switched & gone from a 2 minute drive to 20 to see someone, but the service is streets ahead and well worth the inconvenience. Wish you (and others who are suffering or caring) much luck. Non-obvious pain is very difficult to treat. Keep persevering.

Hi Tom I don`t know if it`s any help but, I had bad back and shoulder pain only but it was painful to even use my camera. So I went and saw a Chiropractor as mine was nerve pain, after 4 sessions it has helped a lot, and touch wood know pain over Christmas.

Been to physio, chiro, osteopath, acupuncture..

Trust me, I’ve tried everything and spent a considerable sum of money in the process.

Like I said before, it’s the senior consultant rheumatologist at the hospital that is refusing pain clinic/meds, my local surgery is nothing to do with it (as it happens I have just moved house, so will be changing surgeries anyway).
I have no one else to go to, even if I went to another hospital in the area, they all share the same consultants.

It does work to an extent. It's not a cure-all but it has sidelined my fidgety personality somewhat. I just have to be careful not to sit there and continuously vape, or I end up overheating the tank and burning the coil!

Thanks for the info, Marcel. Might give it a try if I can't shift the commercialmas weight!

Tom, I've known people to use cannabis (smoked in herbal form) for pain relief after ops and it has worked very well for them. Can't report on CBD or vaping though.

Yeah, I’m sure the real stuff works well, but I wouldn’t even know where to start looking to get some.
Kinda embarrassing asking my 20 year old niece to hook me up.
