Hi all

What do you guys do more of? UWA or macro?

Can’t decide what lens to get for everyday walks in the country.

All advice and thoughts please.

Cheers

A UWA is in a way more universal - but needs a lot of care in framing the image. And as an all-purpose lens it could become a gimmick.

A macro has different constraints. Do you mind muddy knees?

Sorry. To clarify.

I have a 23mm f2 on my xh1.

Looking for an additional fun lens.

Fuji's own 10-24 is a reasonable place to start with a UWA. I'd be tempted by that and a set of extension tubes to use behind your "standard" lens if/when you want/need a macro option.

For walkabout in the country I'd suggest a close up filter.

I mostly use a 35/50mm prime and most don't have really good close up abilities but a screw on close focus lens can be useful for close up and detail shots of flowers, leaves, creepy crawlies and the like when out and about. I have a cheap set of 67mm Kood's and a number stepping rings to enable me to use them on various lenses. I normally take just one with me and I find the quality is good enough

Maybe they could be worth a look?

How about both in one?

For me, macro. I have the fuji 80mm, but if I didn`t, I`d be very tempted with the new 30mm they have now. Not UWA, but looks like super fun :)

in my experience, for general walking about in nature, you will have many more options with macro - flowers, bugs, mushrooms and so on - in any conditions. wide angle in the countryside usual results in very boring photos without a lot of effort.
