not after the best one known to man but whats the ideal ones to lookout for

looking at the Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 ones at present, are they good value for money?

i have a hoya 67mm one on my 18-135 but i think its just a standard cheapish one and with buying an expensive lens i want to get the best results

UV filters wont make a difference to image quality, if anything they may slightly reduce the quality due to the more glass. I dont use them although if I did it would just be for protection. OSD do cheap filters too :)
 
its mainly to protect the lens but dont want something cheap tat may spoil images
 
I think the more expensive ones are just a little thinner and have slightly better protection on them. Dont think they will make a huge, if any difference at all to IQ. Just stick with a well known brand :)
 
Don't put cheap filters on expensive glass. I use UV filters on all my lenses for protection. Everyone has their favorites but the Hoya Pro are a good make.

If you want to know if the filter is making any difference to your images, simply take to images of a reasonably complex subject. One with and one without. Compare the two.
