UV filter

Looking for a UV filter for the Nikon 300 f4.Not sure on size, would like one which is a decent quality but not to high a price ( dont we all ).So where and what make?

Do these filters ruduce the light coming in to the lens--loosing a stop or two?

Most of my pics are of birds--either in the sky or in the water, would i be bettr with a polorising filter, UV or do i need both.

From what you say,I would get a polariser (circular) , don,t use both or you could get vignetting.

PS A uv wont cut down speed,but polarizer will, about 1 stop?

77mm is the size; Hoya are reliable. I buy mine from an ebay seller in lancashire called loobylin - I've bought plenty of her in the past; not an advert, but certainly a recommendation...

As for water shots, a CP filter's definitely worthwhile.

Oh, and I forgot - I can recommend the Kood flat-panel Cokin-type stuff. Good quality, not a 'cheap OEM knock-off' at all.

It's especially useful if you have lenses of differing diameter - one set of filters and a couple of step-up rings will allow you to use your polariser/ND grads/ etc on every lens you own.. just make sure you buy for the largest lens, and you'll be merry!
