Usual workflow?

Normally I take my images straight out of the camera and use them like that; wallpapers, profile pictures etc. Never having really used photoshop much (or anything else for that matter) I'd like to get an idea of the usual workflow that folks go through when post-processing their images?
I understand the individual processes (levels, saturation etc) but have little idea about how to implement them to achieve results!
Any pointers for a beginner would be much appreciated.
 
This thread (from page 2) gives a good idea of what everyone does. Personally I take everything through Lightroom and process them. Then resize and sharpen according to their final usage.

No worries, it took me a while to find it, scrolled past it twice!
