Welcome to TP

The prinicple of the time machine is to back up an existing drive i.e. your hard drive on a continuous basis.

I am sure that iPhoto needs to be installed on your boot up drive in your Mac so your proposal wouldn't work.

The program itself isn't that large IIRC so it will be better to look at perhaps storing your actual photos on a USB drive which is then backed up to the time capsule

Hi there,

Yes, you can use a time capsule as a wireless hard drive if you want and I have stored the occasional file or folder on mine, but that's not really what it's meant for and I think it would be far too slow for use with iPhoto in the way that you suggest.

Transfer speeds between the Mac and time capsule are going to be a lot slower than a USB drive, so it could be a real pain waiting for the images to load.

USB external drives are relatively inexpensive nowadays and I think would provide a better option
