Using printer profiles

I need some help please on using printer profiles.
I bought some new paper and downloaded the printer profiles and copied them into the right place. In my naiviety I thought that once I had done that, they would appear in the drop down box when selecting the type of paper. Not!
I went into Elements 10 and selected Colour Management, selected the profile and then I was asked if 'Did you remember to disable Colour Management in the Printer Preferences dialogue'. When I click the Printer Preferences box it takes me into my printer properties and I have looked and looked and not seen anything that remotely looks like it would disable colour management.
Can anyone help? :bonk:

I use elements 11- should be the same:
Try- edit menu/colour settings - always optimise for printing.
then file menu / print dialog - choose more options at bottom of dialog
choose colour management - photoshop elements manages colours
Printer profile should be the paper profile
To install profile right click on it and choose install
Make sure printer driver is not set to printers handles colours. this varies from printer to printer - further research may be required.
