I'm looking at older nikon lenses at the moment such as the 35-70mm and such. Do they work well on the newer Nikons such as a D90?

Is that the 35-70 f2.8 ? If so I have one and it works well on my D300, which is a similar body to your D90. A nice sharp lens, in fact a bargain for what it costs.

I was actually looking at the 3.3-4.5. How fast does yours focus? Comparable to the newer lenses?

either of the 35-70mm will be too Long on a crop sensor unless you have the wide angle covered with another lens, 18-105mm will probably do a better job

Quick enough, but not as quick as my 17-55 f2.8.

The beauty of the lens is it's nice neutral tones, great for people.

For the £300 - £350 they should cost used, they are a bargain.

A bit more range, the 28 - 105mm f3.5 - f4.5 D(IF) at £150 approx used is another bargain, lovely sharp lens.

i use one on a d50 and it works ok ,but not going to be as good as a constant f2.8
