Right, I love photography but also like to design logos and stuff too.

I've never really understood differences in fonts (that doesn't mean what it sounds like :lol:) I mean most of the time if I'm making a logo I would go to the likes of dafont.com and download a font and use something different from there. Is it ok to do this? Or what way does it work?

Help would be appreciated as I enjoy doing it but I hate the idea of getting a friend/family member in trouble over copyright infringement or anything :shrug:

In all honesty, you need to ask professional graphic designers this question. Hopefully there's one or two on the forums that will help you out.

"The fonts presented on this website are their authors' property, and are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain. The licence mentioned above the download button is just an indication. Please look at the readme-files in the zips or check the indicated author's website for details, and contact him/her if in doubt. If no author/licence is indicated that's because we don't have information, that doesn't mean it's free."

So inside each download is a readme file, normally called readme.txt Open it, itll say something like the font is in the public domain, that means you can pretty much use the font however you want (possibly sell logos with it on, not 100% sure so dont quote me on that) whilst others may say they want a share in the profits if you decide to sell graphics with their fonts on it.

You need to remember that there is a difference between copyright and trademark infringement.
 
Bazza, download yourself a copy of AMP Font Viewer.

It's a free utility for reviewing the fonts installed on your machine, and also assists with the installation and removal of fonts.

With the ability to define sample text and font size when reviewing the fonts, I find it a valuable tool for my design work.

In answer to your original question, as has been posted above, each of the fonts on Dafont will tell you whether it's free for all use or just personal use.

Hi KayJay, could you emphasise on that a little :nuts: I feel there is a hidden clue in there but because I don't know an awful lot about this its over my head :lol:

So can I, for example, design a logo and show it to the client then if they are happy with it buy the font?

A 'friend' told me that I could download fonts on a torrent site (I know, I know its frowned upon, I would never ever do such a thing. :rules::thumbs:)
 
You can buy a font cd from alot of shops inc PC WORLD with about 10,000 fonts on it, All royalty free.
