Using flash with a Nikon D7100

Hi folks,

I've been asked by work to photograph an event/prize giving and I really need some help. I have very rarely used flash and I have no idea about setting up either the flashgun or the camera. The event will probably be in a large dimly lit room and I am going to be taking some shots around the room of people enjoying themselves (drunks, the lot of 'em) but I am mainly there to photograph the teams going on stage to collect their awards. I imagine (I won't know for sure until I get there unfortunately) that there will be a display/video behind the stage so I am thinking that some kind of fill flash would be useful :shrug:
As above I have a D7100 and an SB28DX flash (old but I believe efficient) any advice on settings etc would be gratefully recieved.

Haha, glad you got it sorted, but I think you was asking a lot, if someone could have gave you the settings that worked for your situation I would be asking them to give me 6 numbers between 1-49
