Using extension tubes?

Has anyone got any links to possible a good guide to using extension tubes?

Have just got some for my Panasonic G80 and with my two lens a 25mm f.17 i can't seem to focus on anything and with the 12-60mm f3.5-5.6 i can get items to manually at around the 85mm setting.

An extension tube will reduce the minimum focus distance, so perhaps you are simply too far away...

Stick the lens on the tubes/tubes and set the lens focus to infinity. Move towards a wall until it is in focus and that will be your maximum distance....it will be quite short wirh the 25mm.

Think that's the issue just done some Googling and they work better with longer focal lengths. Might be the 25mm is too short.

Need some time to play with them I think. Managed to get some ok shots with the 12-60mm so far just testing it.

Actually no... extension tubes are more effective with shorter focal lengths, I think 25mm on your camera is an equivalent to 50mm on 'full frame' so they should work fine, you need to remember that the minimum focus distance can be very close with tubes....

With extension tubes shorter lenses work better, with an add-on like a Raynox longer is better. The typical AF macro ext set usually comes with 10mm and 16mm tubes. With both of these attached you will get just over 1:1 macro with your 25mm, but the working distance will be very short. The 60mm on your kit lens would work better with a Raynox 250 attached, you'll get a bit less than 1:1 - more like just over 1:2, I used to do this with my Sigma 60mm and it gave really nice results. Just not 1:1

The AF macro sets are cheap enough to just give a go for fun, and they can help produce great results. I used them a lot with my old Fuji 35mm. Here's a set for M43: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fotga-Auto...3203&sr=8-5&keywords=macro+extension+tube+mft

Cheers I re-read what I found on Google and it said shorter focal lengths can get the minimum focus distance very close, not longer lenses are better. Was multitasking cooking dinner and Googling!!

Cheers, where I got mixed up reading what I had read at 60mm the results were a little disappointing but then getting a shorter focal length improved things.

I have brought some off Amazon and they arrived today, went for the Meike ones. They all seem a similar price.

Yeah Meike are fine, they are all pretty much the same. You get AF using them, but that will really only work well when you use just one ring, with both, in extremely close, AF isn't reliable. But they also maintain all exif data
