Using Elinchrom?

Correct me if I'm wrong but these are new sekonic and pocket wizard gear? Is there any relation to the thread topic?

Thought these were new elinchrome gear hehe

I'll go out on a limb here and interpret your links as following;

1. Using the Pocketwizard ST to trigger the elinchrom lights;
2. Using the Pocketwizard technology in the Sekonic to trigger the lights for meter reading.

The ST4 fits the older Elinchrom studio lights and the battery operated Ranger. (The big one not the Quadra). The newer elinchrom lights, BRX type, Quadra & HD, do not have a port for the ST4.

On that basis, no-one is using that setup for newer lights. Owners of older Elinchrom gear may well be doing so though.

Regards...

spec says RX

Yes as in Style RX not BRX. It fits on the Amphenol connector the Style units use for sync leads.

Ahhh .. thanks :)

I'd just like to have a meter that fires my d-Lites.

Any meter with a skyport universal trigger would work in a pinch. Set the meter to cordless operation and trigger the lights with the skyport.

I would like to trigger using a meter that has an integrated Sky port module.

As far as I can see, there are these two options ...

The module is about 300 euros and allows triggering and power adjustments

This one boasts that it is the only meter with a built in Skyport, it purely triggers.

Edit: Oops! I missed that you already knew about this - sorry (wish I could delete this post).

There's also the Gossen Digisky meter (£289 at Wex) that also works with Elinchrom's Skyport.

I've no knowledge of it other than it exists as I'm quite happy using a spare trigger in conjunction with my meter.

I used to have a Sekonic with the integrated radio module hooked up to PocketWizards and it was pretty nice to work with.

Given the costs involved in your shoes I would just buy a spare Skyport remote for £20 and keep that handy to trigger the lights for the light meter.

I don't even see the need for a spare trigger unless the camera is tripod mounted.

That's fine if you're using a camera strap but generally I either have the camera in hand or on a tripod (I remove the camera strap as it's normally in the way). So either the camera isn't easily in reach or taking up a hand which means placing the meter and hitting the camera shutter/trigger isn't convenient.

So I guess it depends on how you work or would like to work.

If I did more studio work, I'd be less likely to use a strap too.
