Yes
My in-laws have a neighbour from hell. Once used his 4x4 to drag there car into the middle of the street because he doesn't like anyone parking in front of his house.
Now to stop others parking outside he's left an old car there for about a year. No logic at all because now he can not use this space either for his daily drive.

Anyway this car looked a bit suspicious to be its a wreck and hasn't moved in a very long time. I put the reg in to the gov website to check it had mot. It shows up as a completly different car. It looks like he's using another cars reg to avoid tax, insuring and mot-ing the car.

If we report him what would be the consequences for him legally?

If it's on the public highway its an untaxed, uninsured vehicle as far as the DVLA are concerned - even if SORNed it mustn't be on the highway. To your Local Authority it's an abandoned vehicle/fly-tipped waste. If it's a private road or unadopted street then neither of the above will apply - although the DVLA may take a dim view if it's a non-SORNed vehicle using the plates of e SORNed vehicle.

Well the car would be taken away and possibly destroyed (that'll b****r up his game!) and he'll get up to 6 points for no insurance, possibly another 3 if there is no MOT. However what he is doing is fraud, and that falls down to stuff outside of motoring laws. If I had a real PITA neighbour I'd have no 2nd thoughts personally.

It just so happens that when I was younger I did just this (but without being a t*** neightbour). Nothing came of it eventually but it was certainly not a pleasant time - I was arrested on suspicion of fraud at the roadside, then de arrested. The car was impounded. All my cars were inspected (I owned both cars, I was effectively re-shelling a knakcered rally car but as the new shell didn't have an MOT It borrowed the identity of the old one, which was still MOTd, taxed etc).

Report him, at the very least the police attention will be an inconvenience.

Yes it's on the road although he thinks the curb outside his house is his land which is another argument again. Two wheels are on the highway which is good enough I think.

He's a bit of a bully so they are unsure whether to do anything yet. Im happy to do it myself but not if they do not want me to do so. Problem is I'm over a hour away if things kick off.

It's possible that he doesn't 'own' the car and can deny all knowledge of it. Chances are it would get towed either way though I expect.

If it's not moved for long enough , and the tyres are looking softish - then it could be and abandoned car surely ;)

How about the local Council in that case - names don't need to come out then - it can be reported anonymously to them surely.

The road belongs to a road tax paid vehicle. Anyone with valid road tax can park there.

Road tax is the generic term worldwide. Now known as vehicle tax here in the UK.

Witha Daily Mail reader view.... all the neighbours should get their pitchforks out and lynch him.... and his pet gerbil.

A call to crimestoppers may help but Police priorities these days may mean a post-it note on a to-do list. Our rural cops can be dragged off to help out in the big city (Bath) when needed.

Or Vehicle Excise Duty !

Vehicle Tax according to the .gov site.

I reported a couple of untaxed/uninsured vehicles that were parked around the corner and they were gone within a week. Freed up a couple of parking spaces!

Result!

Years ago when I lived in London I had a PITA neighbour who claimed as much parking space for his 'area' as he could as his 'old' XJ6 was precious.. A good friend helped me out.... He was transport manager for a local engineering service company and had 12 new Montego Estates delivered to my house prior to hiis guys taking them over. All legally parked, taxed etc. Was a bigenough gap for him to get his Jag in and out of his space. He came out as I was 'seemingly' doing a clipboard job on 12 identical Montegos.... he was about to go out and demanded I keep 'his parking space' clear. I said I would try but I had 4 more cars on the way. He got a cab to the shops and left his car. As soon as he left my mate got his guys to collect their new cars.... neighbour came back to a completely empty cul de sac. Might seem petty but he never whinged at me about parking again.

Our last landlady didn't drive but kept a car taxed, insured and MOTed parked underneath her balcony so nobody else could park there! She always used to thank me for wheeling my bike away from the window before starting it, never realising that that was purely because the starter motor was kaput so I was bumping it down the hill at the end of the road!

Wassit matter what it's called, we motorists all have to pay it!

Just report the car when a check is done it should be found as a ringer and towed away. If he is going to claim it it could lead to a prosecution. If he does not claim it it will disappear, job done.

Oh for goodness sake just give him a slap and tell I'm not to do It again!

This.
He's not likely to blame your in laws (I'd guess he's p***ed off loads of people), and if he did, and they didn't know you were doing it, they don't have to lie.

if you can find a phone box ? call 999 anomalously and say you just walked by this car and it looked like there was a firearm/gun lying on the back seat ,they will be there giving it the once over very quickly indeed .,
alternately if your that way inclined a metal punch or bradawl through each tyre sidewall will deflate them beyond repair ,which will in turn attract attention ,
or if your really nasty ping a side window and throw in a burning rag :naughty::naughty::naughty:

I wouldn't like to p*** you off..:)

I'll leave it with the in-laws for a few days see if he changes his mind.

Easier to use a tin snips through the tyre valve...... 3am in a ninja suit (so you can get back to whatever you do in a ninja suit!).

Kidnap the guy's pet gerbil......

Spurious 999 call? FFS :rolleyes:o_O

Photo to the council clearly showing the number, class it as abandoned/not moved in 'x' weeks, they check with the DVLA, contact the registered keeper, ask for it to be moved, if its on dodgy plates, then it will get moved PDQ.

Nope tyre valves can be replaced ,if you pierce the side wall then the tyre is a write off.
