Using a 50mm for a Football Match?

Hi,
I am photographing a local cup final tomorrow morning and I only have a 50mm prime lens for my Nikon D90. Close ups will look good but obviously lack of zoom limits me if ball is the other side of the pitch. I could have access to a 24-70mm lens but don't know how much difference that will make. Any tips or advice?

24-70 will be better, simply because it's longer. The 50 on your D90 will be 75mm equivalent, but the long end of the zoom would be a 105 equivalent. Still short unless you're in a really good place IMO but better than the 50. How fast is the 24-70?
