Hi

I want to use my 550ex on camera keeping ETTL but I also need to be able to trigger a couple of YN-460 flashes using rf-602 remote triggers.

The problem is that if I use the 550ex in my camera hotshoe I can't obviosuly insert the remote trigger there.

Is there any accesory I could use for this? Something to convert my camera hotshoe into twho shoes?

Any advice will be appreciated. The camera is a Canon 500D.

That's either going to be really easy, or really hard.

Really easy - YN460 has an S2 slave settings doesn't it? In which case that should do what you want optically (no need for RF-602).

Not sure how reliable/versatile that would be, but if not you're a bit snookered without a PC socket. I guess you could work around it but TBH I think you'd probably be better off skipping the E-TTL bit and switching the whole lot to manual, using three RF-602 receivers.

The slave setting on the YN-460 is not very reliable in my experience. The sensor is in the head and since I'm using the YN-460's to illuminate a white background (for isolated on white pictures) the flash heads are directed to the white background and the sensor is hidden from the main flash.

What I've been doing is using three receivers and using the 550ex in manual mode as you suggested but I'd like to keep ETTL . That's why I was looking for some hotshoe accesory that would let me use the 550ex and the remote trigger at the same time.

You can't trigger the Rf602 and have the 550EX on the hotshoe at the same time. What you could do is add optical slaves to the feet of your YN-460s.

IIRC one of the newer flash trigger systems has a ttl pass-through to do exactly what you need, but it's not possible with the RF602

Have you tried it using the S2 mode? Pointing directly at the white background, they might just pick up on the main flash reflecting off it.

Having said that, I don't see how E-TTL would help you much in that situation. The big advantage of E-TTL is operational speed, but since you'll obviously be taking a fair amount of time to set up, I would rather be in manual anyway.
