There's not a great deal in it, IQ wise.
The 50 f1.4 (Sony or Minolta) is better than the 50 f1.7 or 50 f1.8 SAM, but not by a great deal - the wider aperture is the main reason to go fro one of these.

Between the 50 f1.7 and 50 f1.8 SAM it's a question of what you consider most important.
The 50 f1.7 is metal construction and full-frame, while the 50 f1.8 is plastic and APS-C - but you are buying new with warranty.

Note: I have a Minolta 50 f1.7, and have not tried any of the others, but the above it my perception of the relative merits based on what I have read.

ok i see, Well i wont be going full frame ever i dont think so may as well get the sony with the warranty. Where to buy from though?

Thanks for the input!

Well, a quick google shows it to be ~£130 at the main on-line sites.

If you have a reasonably major camera store locally they may match that.

Sony are also doing a £20 cashback on the 50 f1.8 - go to Jessops online to get a link to the form. The form says it is from 'participating stores', so you may not be able to claim the cashback depending on where you get it from.
(Jessops have it at £132 with free next day delivery.)
