Been after one of these for a while and a friend is on about selling his non-IS USM he got a few years ago. It's an early 2007 model from the date code.

Cant seem to find any prices for these to get an accurate idea so I can make an offer. Its not boxed but is in good condition and the collar is also included.

So how much dyou guys reckon its worth and what should i be offering?

The going rate seems to be between £350 and £400 depending on condition, etc. The tripod collar is an expensive accessory, but no box is a downpoint. It depends on how much use you'd make of the tripod collar I'd guess, and whether that collar is genuine canon. If it's genuine, close the deal at £400-£410, if it's not then target £375.

I got it wrong actually, code is UX0619 making it June 2009. The collar is a genuine one, I've seen the price of them and know they aren't cheap. He mentioned a £370 price so I reckon he'd let me have it for £350.

the genuine canon collars are fairly rare, although seen in signatures on these very boards....

Just found these lenses new on Warehouse Express for £475.
I had planned to get a teleconvertor but if i used to 2x Canon on this f4 lens what would that convert my aperture to, and how do you work it out.

Anyone know if there's anything I should look for, fault-wise in this lens? It did all look and operate fine when I tested it, just wondered if there are any common problems with them.

with teleconverters, times the aperture by the converter.

2x 4=8 so it becomes a 140-400 f/8 (no AF)

apparently is does take a 1.4x converter very well though. It's a VERY sharp lens.

I HAVE used a 2x convertor on my 70-200 L f4, AND got the AF to work, BUT, it has to be very very good light!

Cheers for that. Suppose the bonus of buying the f2.8 IS then is that you can get a 400mm f5.6 out of it too. Hmm. Not sure now, i'd have liked to use it as a 400mm at times but f8 is gonna need lots of light.
Decisions.
