Used Car for £6k-£8k....

I won't! I'm thinking I might be better just sticking down a deposit and paying for a new one, gives me better peace of mind thats its not going to break after 5 miles!!!

If no-one bought new, I would be out of a job for 1 (Ford wouldn't need new press tools anymore) and 2 there would be no 2nd hand cars.
 
For that money you'd get something like a SEAT Leon diesel or something from the Skoda range. What about a Volvo S40/V50?

I was looking for a used diesel golf 4 years ago. Wandering round the auctions, found a 2002 mercedes c220cdi. It was described in the auction brochure as manual, but that was a mistake, it's a 5 speed auto and that may have helped to dissuade some buyers from looking.
A quick check on parkers showed over £7500 bottom book. I paid less than £4600 for it and have had to nothing apart from the usual service items. Should be able to get £3500 for it if wanted to sell it today, so in 4 years driving £1100 depreciation. Treble's all round!!

You can get real bargains at auctions if you're willing to take a little risk. Remember, this is where most dealers buy their cars, and you can buy your own warrantee for your car.

Not this one, I had bought two previous ones new though. Couldn't afford another new one for a while and they'd stopped making the Mk3 by the time I could, I was intending to buy a Mk4 but felt after having already owned Mk1's and Mk2's I had to have a Mk3 as well so bought the ST TDCi in the interim. Problem is I can't bear to part with it at the moment, I still want to get a Mk4 but the Mk5 comes out next year, so I'm still going to be playing catch up.:lol:
If I had the room to park one though, I'd be getting myself a nice new Panther Black Titanium X Sport 2.0 Ecoboost. (Not sure if the Powershift gearbox would be to my liking though, I prefer manuals, so it may have to be a 2.2TDCi) Problem is I also like the Fiesta Zetec S Metal and the Focus Zetec S Ecoboost and then the ST variants come out soon, spolit for choice and nowhere to park them. Sometimes I'm lucky to be able to park in my own road as it is.:thumbsdown:

Quite like the Leon its certainly one I'm looking at, I've spent 2 years driving hire cars every week and of all of them I liked the Leon the best!
Volvo S40 looks a nice car actually, not given Volvo much thought!

Quite like the Zetec S or the Zetec S Metal myself! Nice looking cars and probably the cheapest new cars I'm looking at.

I had the old Leon cupra r and it was great and by all accounts, the new one is a real dark horse, especially in deisel form.

The Volvo s40/s50 are based on the focus and are very nice motors. The deisels are top. I have a 2.4 deisel S60 and I regularly get 55mpg from it.

The dealers who buy their stock at auctions will tell you that. The dealers who avoid auctions like the plague will tell a different story :whistling:

By the way, Chris, if you still fancy an Alfa, they make an Alfa GT with a bit more space. They call it the 159 ;)
 
Did you check out the accord, its a seriously nice diesel and fairly spacious.

Good luck finding either a Juke or Qashqai within your budget without it having a huge mileage on it.

I had to make a trip up the auctions today to check out a car for someone. By the close of bidding the difference between the winning bid and what Motorpoint are selling the same car for was barely £200 by the time the indemnity etc was factored in, so heaven knows where the dealer that bought four similar cars was going to be selling them or for how much :shrug;

I paid just over four grand for my Volvo - 2005, 85,000 miles, FSH.... gotta get some new front on it after doing 20K in it since september. Just keeps surprising me with the fuel economy and it's by far the most comfortable car I've been in.
 
A TDi Bora Highline could be a good shout. We got one last year for £4500, 05 plate, 40,000 miles, heated leather seats, cruise control, gets over 60mpg.

Fantastic car but no Boras were made past 2005 unfortunately. If you can get diesel Octavia that hasn't been a taxi it'd be a good option.
 
i like the look of the alfa's

how about a solid 3 series coupe diesel?
 
Will take a look at Bora's always liked them for some reason, BMW 3 series also a possibility, quite like the look of the Volvo S40 as well which seems to be relatively cheap and again the Mazda 3 always seems to come up as a decent bet in the price range.
