A while ago I found an arguably good use for AI in photography. I share my photos on social media where good practice is to include Alt Text on the post for the benefit of people who are blind or partially sighted. Sometimes, composing the Alt Text can be a challenge. I'm usually pretty good at describing what women are wearing, but sometimes my brain fails me. In which case AI can often help.

I just posted this photo in the Street forum.

As I wasn't entirely sure which material the woman's dress was made of, I fed this photo to ChatGPT and asked it, "What is the woman on the right wearing?". Here's the reply:

The woman on the right is wearing:

• A white lace dress

• A faux fur coat or jacket in a neutral tone

• Dark strappy sandals

• Several accessories, including a pendant necklace

Her outfit gives off a vintage and bohemian-inspired look.

Both confirmation of what I'd thought and, with a bit of reformatting, usable Alt Text.

AIs can also be pretty good at coming up with usable hashtags for social media posts, but often miss some of the obvious ones. Here's what ChatGPT offered:

#BrickLane #LuxuryJunk #VintageVibes #StreetStyle #LondonMarkets #RetroFashion #BohoStyle #FleaMarketFinds #AlternativeFashion #UrbanCulture #MarketLife #EclecticStyle #StreetMarket #LondonLife #SecondHandTreasures #UniqueFinds #FurCoatStyle #IndieFashion #StreetScene #VintageMarket

Not bad, but I'd have started with #market #stall #people #woman and #vintage.

I'd have said 'fur-trimmed nightie' but there you go. :$

Looks more like an old petticoat to me, I'm no expert though.

I can still fit into loads of things I wore in my teens - every pair of socks!

the technology is amazing / scary at the same time. I've had a go at building a custom GPT with ChatGPTs tool and its working very well. It's "visual content planner" as it aimed at planning jobs with some specific knowledge especially user manuals for the kit we're using. So far so good https://chatgpt.com/g/g-1yNA4nZDl-visual-content-planner
