Morning,

Never really used Flickr before but thought i would possibly sign up for the Pro account and start to use it as an additional method of storage and begin tagging photos so that would possible been seen by more than just me.

Everyone on TP seems to have a Flickr account and i just wondered what your main reasons for using Flickr are?

Thanks

Flickr almost certainly has the largest user base of any photo site so far more people are likely to see your images, and it's great for "niche" photography such as Holga, Street Photography etc
It's not so good for galleries as it's based on a photostream but you can create "sets" from photos within that stream.
It has a huge number of groups as well.

what it says on the tin, sharing photos.

wouldnt necessarily use it for storage, they could potentially shut your account down at any time without warning.

as long as i don't break the rules i'm pretty sure i would be safe for them not to close my account down, it wouldnt be my primary storage, just another method

Storage can be an issue these days with the way it is priced! Online looks like a good place to put images?

just wondering how it wold into my workflow,

like i said i was use it as a method of remote storage. was thinking of using this for finalised client images. but i wouldn't be linking from my website to these images as I wouldn't want them to go in and download them themselves however i would like to tag them within flickr to get feedback and views.

depends how much data you want to store, how much bandwidth you have (up and down, along with usage policies) and how deep your pockets are.

is there a limit to flickrs storage per pro account?

I use it to store and share my photo's. They are not good, but the storage is :)

I've just come to the end of my first year pro account and haven't renewed it as yet. I've put photos on there but not really got into the groups - mainly because any friends I saw that were in groups just got things like 'wow - amazing shot' on images etc. Which of course is nice if that's what you want...

Not much control as to how your photos are viewed etc. I'll continue to use it for my camera club etc, but that's probably all.

I don't need a Flickr account.
I don't need the storage
I don't need lots of divs to see my pictures
I don't need social network driven input to validify my work/art/occupation

The operative word is "need"...."want" is an entirely different thing, you can't put a price on happiness..:)

I'm sorry, you're absolutely right, there are no divs with Flickr accounts.
I'm awarding you the platinum false sense of accomplishment star, just for bringing that mistake to my attention..:)

So, I'm a div because I have a flickr account. Thanks for that!

I don't think you should make a sweeping generalisation like that.

now now....you shouldn't go reading more into a post than there actually is..;)

Personally I love Flickr, made quite a few friends, nice people, helpful and inspiring!!

As for validation and input, is that not what happens on forums like this? Good job on the occupation thing!!

I have a question, by making your account go pro, will it make it better for my account to get views?

If you have a hotmail account they give you 25Gb of FREE storage called Skydrive - I use it and it works well - just make sure you also install Silverlight so you can do batch upoads.

.

If I'm shooting RAW that'll do me the weekend :p

As far as flickr is concerned I have an account but I took everything off it a few years ago. Couldn't, and still don't, see the point of it for what I do. Perfectly valid medium for those who want to spread their own work about though.
