Hey guys :)

Just wondering if there's a way to keep back button focus enables and also have a button to lock exposure on my 5D. I could keep changing the custom function to do so, but it would obviously easier to just have a setting to do it. Or should I just leave on back button focus and only use manual for my landscapes?

EDIT: Am I being silly? After mapping rear button focus does half pushing the shutter button lock exposure?

Cheers

On my D700 I have disabled the shutter release from focusing, half pressing the shutter button acts as an exposure lock.

Just to add releasing the rear button focus is going to lock focus, well it will stop focusing

My apologies, when I put in my edit I typed focus instead of exposure :bonk: I meant does half pushing shutter lock exposure?

On the 5d2, if you have that special function set to 3 then the AF on button will focus and start the metering and a half press of the shutter button locks the exposure... is it not the same on the 5D classic?

Very likely, at college at the moment so can't check. It might be that it does it and I haven't known so haven't used it to do so. Will check when I get home.

No problem ... it should do ... try it when you get home, point camera at something dark, half press shutter and point at something bright see if the exposure changes in your viewfinder display

Got it! On the classic, it's custom function setting 4-1 not 4-3 as I had it! Thanks guys!

I think you will find its cfn4-3.
Just tried on my 5D and it focuses using the back button and locks exposure with a half shutter press.

Yes, in the sense that the exposure is locked while you maintain the half press on the shutter button. It's not a hard lock, and you'll lose it if you release the button.

I find that cfn4-1 is the one for me. Option 3 doesn't lock the exposure at all, temporarily or otherwise for me
