hi
the usb sockets (all three) on my packard bell easynote MZ35 have stopped working, all at once. they have power to them. Would updating the bios help?
it has version 0.18 on it and I have found ver 3.xxx online. I can not find anything to do with this model on the packard beel site. I have the new version on disc and have made a restore point.

A bios update wouldn't hurt but all of them failing together possibly indicates a hardware problem with the USB control circuits.

If it has a PCMCIA / express card slot then you can get a card with USB ports on it to get USB connections again that way.

Thanks Robert, will do the update later. shame it dose not have a PCMIA/ express card slot. The usb slots do have power to them, when I plug a mouse in to them it lights up

Have you got a spare USB keyboard? If so, plug it in, go into the bois, and see if you can control the bois from the external keyboard.

hi Neil, no device is reconised . in device manager under usb controller I'm getting 'this device cannot start code 10' I seem to have power to the sockets but nothing will work. I have tried a usb keyboard, but no re action.

Is that in the BIOS that you have checked if the keyboard works though, not booted into Windows? Just want to rule out corrupt drivers, if it fails to work in the BIOS then it wouldn't be down to dodgy drivers installed in Windows.

John,

Recently had this exact same problem on my wife's MZ35. I updated the BIOS, loaded the latest USB drivers, etc., but nothing worked. In the end I took the laptop to a local repair shop and they confirmed my suspicions that it was a hardware fault. Bought her a new laptop instead of having it repaired - gotta keep in her good books somehow

On the PB web site it's called something else ... arcos ... or something like that. Sorry I don't remember the name

hi Steve, I was coming to this concludtion. It's not my main pc, just really use it to read photo books and watch videos , photoshop etc while trying to do what I'm watching on the pc. so still can.
many thanks everyone for your help
John
