Hi

Seem to have misplace the USB to USB -C cable for my Lexar card reader, can I purchase any USB to USB-C cable from Amazon to use for the image transfer or do I need a specific cable?

Thank you

Any will do but just make sure it transfers both data and power. A lot of the cheaper ones only transfer power, they have phone charging as their task.

USB C has a bit of an issue with this.

But all you need to look for is a cable that allows data transmission.

I believe that the cheapest USB-C cables are charging only, and there may even be a halfway for charging and video.

I’m plucking up the courage to test all my USB-C cables with a view to binning all the ‘charging only’ ones, cos I appear to have dozens.

Also need to throw dozens of lightning and micro USB cables.

Thank you both, will have a look at the Anker or Ugreen Amazon ones

Try Argos l have purchased one recently in order to attach a seagate external drive to a mac studio usb c port.. so far works fine.. bit pricey at £19 but quality seems ok

USB-C is a mess because there's no proper badging so cables can have vastly different capabilities but there's no way to easily tell looking at them.

Unfortunately USB-C does not mean a minimum of USB3 spec as you'd think and instead it's just a connector so in theory it's possible to have a USB1.1 spec USB-C cable which I hope doesn't exist but there are plenty USB2 cables which are much slower than USB3 which is important for something like an external SSD.

As others have mentioned, it's messy. I borrowed a USB-C cable when I forgot the one that came with my card reader one weekend. Data transfer rates were about 5 times slower, so a 5 minute copy/ingest took almost 30 minutes.... I then found a USB-C to USB-A cable, plugged that into my laptop and transfer speeds were only twice as slow.

The messiness get worse as you start looking at cables which are USB3, USB4, Thunderbolt 3, 4 or 5 verifed and with different charging rates. It may cost a few £ more, but I'd opt to buy another one direct from the manufacturer if it's available.

Thank you all, I just remembered that I have some Anker ones for my phone so will check if they also do data.
