USB 3 card reader issue

So I have a pretty new iMac (a late 2012 27") and a Kingston USB 3 card reader.

I leave the reader plugged directly into a USB3 port on the back of the Mac.

If I put a card in then the light flashes but the Mac won't mount it. If I reboot with the card in then it mounts it fine - and will continue mounting other cards.

Any ideas?
 
Actually no, it's still happening. Cold boot, no card reader. Warm boot all is fine :(

Any ideas? Even if it's a suggestion for a different reader.
 
exact same setup using a transcend USB3 card reader works fine. Would suggest the card reader is the issue

Got a link to the reader you use? They are cheap so it's not worth wasting energy figuring out what's wrong with the Kingston.

Yes, There are 4. Apple claim they are all the same. But, who knows....? :)
 
Cheers Hugh. I'm going to take a risk with the black one. It will look better on my desk. Also it's cheaper ;)
